I don’t remember being able to get anywhere near the main stages after about 2PM with GA.

    Things have changed.

If people could be cool instead of wasting their entire day camping in front of a stage to see a headliner, everyone could have a more enjoyable time.

I will say that everyone piling in at the main stages made seeing bands on the side stages a piece of cake last year. It felt like only Simple Plan and Thrice really got crowded at the end of the night while I was able to get really close for Finch and The Academy Is with no trouble at all. I tried heading over to the main stages a couple of times and realized I was going to be stuck there all day if I bothered getting anywhere near even the middle of the crowd.

With MCR and FOB, I’d be stunned if it wasn’t even worse. I’m remembering those two on Warped Tour 2005 and the literal stampedes toward their main stage slots whenever they were scheduled.

Last year I do remember it being pretty empty right before Thrice started playing and it being easy getting closer to the stage but at some points looking back once they started and it feeling pretty packed. They played a perfect setlist for the type of festival it is.

I’m sure the VIP is basically the same and just looks that way on the map

Plus, PTV was mainstage last year during the day and the crowd for them was MASSIVE.

I will say this. I got VIP last year and, at the very least, for an elder emo such as myself, having room to sit down and give my legs and feet a rest by the time blink and Green Day came on was so clutch. Watching blink and Green Day from VIP, where you could see everything, hear everything how its supposed to be heard, and not cramped up on maybe the side where you couldn't hear one side as well or vice versa, not to mention just enveloped by people and impossible to go to the bathroom and get your spot back, was quite nice. By the end of the day, after sweating balls and standing up for 12 hours straight (including the hour walk from the opposite end of the strip), I deemed the price worth it.

I only survived one day of Four Chord this year because I did VIP where I had access to a couch. I’m too old to be on my feet literally all day.

This is what I’m hoping for. It’s my first WWWY so I’m hoping everything goes smoothly!

Maybe a dumb question, but are there mosh pits/crowd surfers on the VIP areas?

I want to go into the pits for some bands, so Im still debating which day I should use GA and which day VIP

Nah, I would go to the main pit for those.

So if you “lose” your spot to rest or go to the bathroom or run to another stage, you still felt you were able to have a good view from vip for the headliners? I’ve been watching birds eye video from past festivals and am just a little concerned for how packed vip looked later in the day

I'm not going to worry about it as I'll have a good regardless but I am expecting VIP for the main stage to be 'closer' but feel grossly oversold and overcrowded by the end of the day. I'm betting on quick entry / and shorter merch / drink / bathroom lines to be what makes it worth it or not.

Last year Green Day was cake to get close to but they didn't hold the crowd well and they had 30 seconds to mars before so I got close for them, watched blink from that side, then moved right up for green day. My buddy and I easily walked right up to the stage pretty much, and most people were going the other way. I imagine that it filled in as people made their way over from Blink, but Green Day was just not an exciting headliner imo and plenty left early.

I think McR will hold the crowd this year and VIP / GA is going to be a shit show to be anywhere close without being extremely crammed.

Looks like Dance Gavin Dance will be switching to playing the "Downtown Battle Mountain" albums instead of "Mothership."

That would be disappointing, but I'm willing to bet it will just be Andrew. He's been doing the Jonny songs on tour and nails the voice, minus all the drama.

That being said this band has the worst judgement of character, so it would be incredibly disappointing, but not surprising if they brought jonny back lol.

So are they playing a different album each day?

Yep. Now, obviously, the main VIP area was on the Pink Stage side, so I could see blink a lot better than Green Day over on the black stage, and mostly paid attention to the screens, but I absolutely could still see them on stage. Far enough back in VIP, it honestly felt like me and my friends had our own spot and there was no one crowding us (probably because 60,000 other people were on the other side of the barricades lol)

Having gone both of the last two years, I honestly just get the sense that many elder emos get to the closer and just reach a breaking point with how long they've been at the fest and end up leaving strictly to get a jump on the long journey back to the other end of the strip. While the crowds were definitely still massive, there were plenty leaving during My Chem two years ago after Paramore, same as it was with Green Day last year after blink. That's why I think second-to-last is where you want to be, and Fall Out Boy will ultimately get the bigger crowd. But who knows! My Chem does that have that mythical, mysterious gang of vampires quality to them that maybe will hold people in place since they haven't done a whole lot since they last played WWWY.

I imagine part of Green Day's contract was like "we are NOT playing before ANY band (even Blink-182)" or something of that sort.

100%, I would imagine they haven't opened for anyone since Pop Disaster in 2002.

This kind of thing is honestly why I was so surprised FOB wasn't the closer. Because I figured, unless its Green Day, they ain't opening for anyone anymore, since they literally headline stadiums now. But maybe they know second-to-last is where its at, so they decided to eat a little humble pie and support My Chem.

I think FOB respects MCR a lot so maybe that's it. They also, wisely, probably know the second-to-last spot is really the sweet spot for pulling it the biggest crowd at these things.

Members of FOB talk about how they’re always comparing their success to MCR’s success in the Where Are Your Boys Tonight book. It’s basically co-headlining so they probably accept the reality that MCR has the bigger novelty right now, especially with The Black Parade
