I saw a Facebook post about it and there were like 500 comments and…nobody believed that Weiland story.

I thought maybe it was a hoax post - but who could lie about that?

    Just finished the book.

A great read. The last chapter or two, the words come across genuinely grateful and happy from Deryck. Glad he's made peace with a lot of his pain and struggles throughout his years. Some wild shit in there. I listened to Catching Fire the second I finished it, a beautiful ending.

Fuck Greig Nori. Thank fuck for Ari Barbara. RIP Jerry Finn.

I said years ago that it would be great to get a book from deryck. This did not disappoint. It really gives me a new perspective on the band, and maybe even a greater appreciation. Some stuff was shocking to read, like some of the steve stuff, and how bad things had gotten for the band during the SBM era. But Im glad things turned around and that the band gets to go out on such a high note.

Part of me does hope that steve plays with them one more time, even if it’s just for fat lip. He seems so cheery and everything about the band and its history on his youtube channel lately, so i wonder where things are at.

I listened to the audiobook as background noise so somebody might be able to provide more and fill in the blanks.

Deryck talks about how Steve was very critical of Deryck's drinking and partying habits but felt that Steve was being hypocritical because he partied just as hard as he did. Deryck also says that Steve was not supportive of his marriage with Avril and was outwardly mean / rude / disrespectful to Deryck's current wife when they started dating. he talks about a story when they were on tour in Asia when she was smoking a cigarette at dinner and Steve yelled at her and then later in the night he started smoking as well. also, when Deryck was dealing with his back issues, he says that Steve was not very empathetic or compassionate towards him. Steve's only concern at that time was whether Deryck could perform or not because it affected the rest of the band getting paid. there was also a story about how around the time that Dave rejoined the band and they performed at that Alternative Press show in 2015, someone reached out to Steve to interview him about the band. Steve reached out to Deryck and said he wanted to talk and Deryck thought it was going to be about rejoining the band with Dave. when they got on the phone to talk, Deryck was asking Steve how he was and how his kids were and Steve just started yelling at Deryck and cussing him out that people were asking him about the band.

those were the main things that stick out to me that I remember right now. there was just a general vibe of resentment and them growing apart towards the end of Steve's time in the band.

The cigarette story is missing context. They were overseas, Japan if memory recalls correctly, and that it was common for people to all be smoking inside restaurants. That is why his girlfriend decided to have just one. Steve flipped out and said she wasn’t allowed to. When Deryck pointed out that everybody else in the place was already smoking, Steve said they lived here and were allowed to. When Steve later smoked one, his excuse is that “well, you know how I get after I drink a few.”

    Things have changed.

Also the plane story where he and his girlfriend were in business class or first class with Cone and Steve in coach. Steve came up to him and started yelling that Deryck's girlfriend belonged in coach. Deryck offered for both of them to trade seats with Steve and Cone but Steve said, "no, SHE belongs back there."

it sounds like he was dealing with his own demons at the time, and the Avril thing I can kinda see in the sense that she had her own substance issues she was dealing with and constant rumors of her being abusive/cheating on Deryk. To me sounds like a bunch of people dealing with their own Issues at their worst.

Basically, since Grieg is denying the allegations, Deryck says he stands behind every word in his book. He says he is more than willing to go before a jury under oath to prove his truth. He then thanks fans for support.

This could be tinfoil hat stuff and jumping the gun, but until this book came out, Steve had been posting videos at a consistent clip every week. Now, he hasn't posted since September 27. And I wonder if he got a heads up about what was in the book and is now figuring out if he needs to address anything or just go on with business as usual. Forgetting even the negative light that Deryck portrays him in the book, Grieg Nori was his manager too, so learning about these allegations with the rest of us has got to be a mind fuck for him as well. So its interesting to think about whether he wants to address any of that.

Stevo was in LA last week for the NOFX final shows, Sum 41 had its final LA show the Thursday before - I fully expected him to show up, but then he didn't, and I heard about how he's portrayed in the book. Suddenly his absence made sense.

I have about 3 hours left on the audiobook so I'm not sure what else Deryck says, but I'm curious if he told the rest of Sum 41 (and Stevo) about any of this stuff with Grieg Nori before there were headlines and articles and interviews about it. That's probably wild to experience for them, if they hadn't received any heads-up. (Not that Deryck had to, of course).

I'd like to think that based on the ending of the book and Deryck's (latest?) interaction with Steve that things are okay.

During all the shit, they were teenagers/guys in their twenties with relentless schedules, press, media scrutiny (Paris/Avril), constant comparisons to blink, being called sellouts, all while their frontman was in an abusive relationship with their manager.

It's very easy to see why tensions ran so high between them, despite the good times. These were guys who didn't know who they were yet, being thrown around the world like ragdolls while trying to cope with their own self-identity and growth, plus the demands from their label, and fucktard Nori.

So stoked it's a happy ending overall, regardless if there's still a few issues with Steve. These are all grown men now, I'm sure it's okay, or at least, civil.

Awesome for them to have two #1’s from this album. Well deserved. The heaven side is still one of my favorite albums from this year.
