I think they were a post-COVID casualty IIRC. I don't recall the particulars but Aaron mentioned it on social at some point. Can't pull it up on Maps anymore either so I'm pretty sure its gone.

Probably a more obscure reference but Aaron Marsh is giving very strong Richard Edwards vibes lately and it’s not a good thing lol

ixora doesn’t need a remaster at all. I genuinely do not understand the point of that.

Damn. Figures. Interesting that Omnipop came about though.

Hope he isn't too strapped for cash. If he is, that excuses the AI thing to a degree. Huge monetary incentive there, plus from the sounds of it he was just helping out a friend. It's not like he made it. He's pretty stupid trying to defend it though, ESPECIALLY seeing as how he's had experience in film making. If not stupid then ignorant. Grandpa doesn't know what's going on with these computers nowadays. I would say I excuse it since most people don't understand the effects of AI, but he's actively in an industry affected by it, so I don't know. It's complicated. Anyway...

    A) I think that sound in the alt version of “Like I Want You” is like my fav part of any normal/alt. versions of that song lol. Listening to the normal version feels like something is missing now.

    B) I kinda avoided Revolving Doors fora bit because I felt similar to you, but when I eventually listened to it like 6 months after its release, I actually really liked it. New arrangements were really cool, though he took songs in interesting new directions, and was the best Aaron has ever sounded on a record. I’m really glad to have that version of “Every Silence”, one of my fave cope songs that I felt got a bit overlooked.

    C) Vanguard room closing sucks hard. I don’t really follow any social media so I just learned from your post.

    D) At one point I kinda felt like they/he had figured out making a sustainable musical career by moving into recording/producing and that we would just get albums every few years, but you’re right: it sucks that is apparently not working out either.

    E) I don’t know how I feel about this AI thing. It does feel a little different than a lot of the normal AI convo. I feel like using AI to jumpstart ideas, try things out without committing a bunch of time, etc, seems valid. I work in education and that’s kinda the mindset we are trying to advise students to view it as. It sounds like the project understood the limits of the tool and knew actual artistic vision and synthesis was need to make it a real thing. I also get the skepticism and likewise wonder if this talk is just trying to rationalize something that just cuts out jobs and maximizes profit.

the laser gun sound is kinda atrocious.

a long time ago, i saw someone try to merge the two versions in Audacity as multichannel FLAC files. wondering how easily this could be done and how it would sound on my 5.1 setup.

Haha I truly do not want to, my wife watched the AI defense video and then saw he was remastering Ixora and said “oh no, I can’t deal with another guy doing this..”

Really? Its so jarring though! :crylaugh: I absolutely love the original, alt, and 'combined' versions of LIWY. Its a great song and is of the formula I think Aaron/Copeland do exceedingly well: Beautifully atmospheric music leveraging dual male/female vocals for maximum effect. Its just that damn phaser-laser-thing that bothers me. Curious how it sounds to everyone else now. :-p

I do like Revolving Doors and a lot of the revisions on there do sound quite good. But if you had asked me prior to that project being announced what Copeland should do next as a band, that would not have been on my bingo-card for top 4 things. I completely respect the move, I think too many bands don't play with released material enough even when it should be (See TGA and Get Hurt needing to be finished), but it did strike me as a weird/left-field move from them when they announced it.

Every Silence and Good Morning Fire Eater are probably my favorites of that record and I think they open it very strongly.

Yeah, Vanguard closing probably cut a decent income stream off from Aaron who is obviously a fantastic producer and engineer. I'd have loved to see more bands work with him and benefit from his methods and experience.

And then even though I know we're speculating heavily, the band's income model might need to get work-shopped if their current cadence of album / shows / merch is not working for them. I feel like there may be ways to work it out but we obviously don't have the details. We know they don't have the appetite to tour extensively so I'd be exploring other avenues: Maybe repeat IX's Twin companion on the next record, try for larger orchestral shows in bigger cities if they can sell the tix, or expand on the apparel front.

I get the feeling there's some conflation and competing ideas in the mix for sure, and I think its tainted a lot by who's getting paid. I'd feel pretty comfortable saying in this case I think Aaron was probably trying to do things somewhat ethically, or to the extent he could, while simultaneously needing the work.

    Appreciate your thoughts man.

A screenshot popped up on my Timehop from a year ago of them working in the studio.

    Hope we hear something soon.

In an interview I watched, he almost played a new song but he said his voice wasn't up to it since he had just come off of the BMT 20th tour stuff. Said he would have done it otherwise. It'd be super cool to hear a new one at this Ixora concert. I guess we'll see.

Have they said anything about recording/streaming the Ixora show? Really wish they were doing a full tour but I'd just be happy to watch it

I don't believe they have. Usually people record this stuff anyway, but I read on the Schermerhorn Symphony website that video recording is not allowed, so amateur recordings coming out like usual doesn't seem so possible. I'm praying they officially stream it or SOMETHING because I'd hate for this performance to be lost.

Sorry for the bump of disappointment here but I was just convinced we be getting new music this year. They started posting studio updates over a year ago.

Need new Copeland in my life :-/

Has anyone actually tried to overlay ixora + twin on top of each other how they intended? Not sure why I haven't - how is it?

  23. I did it with two CD players once and it was pretty neat. I also have a digitally overlaid version, but I usually just listen to the original.

some songs are REALLY good and become my preferred way of listening to them. others feel a tad cluttered, but are still a fun time. i recommend trying it.

i way prefer it combined to either version separate but i never did it the dual cd way youre actually supposed to, i just mixed the files together. ordinary is the only song i prefer as is

lavender and erase in particular really transform, and the latter was already the album highlight
