Reinvented pop music? Not a fucking chance…reinvented the go to market strategy for a pop star, absofuckinglutely.

It’s also just easier to say reinvented pop music than what you suggest.

True for the most part, but he also gave TTPD a higher rating than folklore so we gotta take these things with a grain of salt haha

    I'm kidding...mostly lol

I really have had no urge to go back to this album in months. It’s weird, because I think I probably like it better than Midnights, but felt way more draw to keep listening to that one than this one.

Might have bought that if it was just the second part of the album, but I'm not buying the entire thing again. Sorry Taylor!

i'll consider it, but this thing is dropping on Black Friday, and is only being sold in stores that first day, with an online release the next day. if this is limited, that's gonna be hell for anyone trying to purchase it.

I doubt it's limited. They'll sell this in Target for the next 65 billion years.

i ultimately think i agree, but this limited quantities message did catch my eye, unless it's just referring to the first batch of records. obviously lots of folks have wanted this for a while, and unlike doing something like RSD, selling in Target opens up the door for making it available beyond that date. then again, she sold a shit ton of copies of the base album on vinyl, so who knows how many people are gonna double dip this time around?

Posted these in the Cowboy Carter thread earlier this year when Beyonce announced that an "official vinyl" would be coming out, with all the songs on the album, after she released an unfinished version. Kind of feel the same way here, tbh.

Recall that the Lover vinyl was originally a Target exclusive as well, and I think I remember a similar message with that one. I think this one will be readily available for a long time, even if it is hard to get that first weekend.

one thing i do wonder about is how the hell this thing is gonna be packaged. obviously with the Red rerelease, she used a slightly larger jacket for all 4 LPs, but if she follows through with sticking a booklet smack dab in the middle of the gatefold (which already added to the thickness of the base record), that's gonna be a lot of pressure on those four discs when packaged. maybe she'll ditch the booklet and do printed inner sleeves with lyrics. at least it'll be easier to sleeve.

Held out on vinyl because I figured this had to be coming. The limited message scares me though

I'll definitely pick up the Anthology version as at some point, and then ditch my first version at the local used store immediately thereafter.

I know it's all about money, but this just seems so wasteful to me. Realistically, how many fans that wanted TTPD on vinyl didn't already buy one of the many, many versions? (We found at least one of them; hey @SteveLikesMusic!) Just release the second album as a standalone on vinyl and let fans buy that at a lower price, rather than forcing them to buy an album they already have on vinyl to get the stuff they don't have.

All that said, this is exactly what I expected she would do all along!

Is this her most divisive album? Not for all the variants/surprise drops/etc, but just on the actual work?

Because for me, this is bottom 2 Taylor, but for most of SwiftTok it seems to be a runaway top 2 and I feel like I know no one on here or in real life that feels that way about this album.

Reputation’s reputation has certainly improved over the years but I think that was even more divisive than this upon release

I personally love the first half of the album (TPD). Anthology is just ok.

i'm mostly in the same boat, but there are some all-time greats on Anthology. haven't spun this whole thing since May, so i might do that today.

It's going to be the runaway bestselling album of the year anyway, Taylor!

Absolutely wild to me that this mess of an album is in anyone's top 2.

The frustrating thing to me about it is that there are so many things I love about it. At its best, I feel like it's a mirror to Speak Now. She had so many feelings she was working through on that album, and was writing on her own, and what came out of it was this gloriously petty, extremely overstuffed overshare of an album. This album has a lot of that, but it's a little less charming to me coming from a 30-something rather than a teenager. And it also, ultimately, feels even more overstuffed, thanks to the presence of a lot of rough-draft songs on the anthology.

All that said, at least half a dozen pantheon-level Taylor songs on this thing, which is more than I can say for Midnights.
