I am going to vote in person on election day because I have a tradition: I walk to my polling place and I cut through a neighborhood that has some of the nicer expensive homes in my town. I take note of all the local politicians that have signs next to Trump signs so I know who to vote against in the smaller races. If the rich Trump supporters in my city want someone to be a City or County Commissioner or mayor that is who I am not voting for.

for sure, i know she's not going to win, but i know she is the only candidate on the ballot that has spoken on ending the genocide.

I love the small stakes of local politics. The biggest local uproar leading up to these citywide elections was the gentrifing transplants who moved here during Covid forcing the town commission to enforce a 10pm outdoor seating cutoff for our downtown breweries, bars, and restaurants because of noise complaints. The downtown merchants association flipped out and got them to reverse it.

Filling out my ballot now so just gonna say that even though I'm not in a swing state I am voting for Harris for a similar mentality that I had in 2016 for voting for Hillary (and a similar extent in 2020 for Biden) in that I want the biggest vote margin of victory as possible to rejecting Trump and his agenda. The harm another 4 years of Trump would bring could possibly be felt for a lifetime with the supreme court and other things. I don't ever like to leave any races blank and I believe in voting for the person who think would realistically be the best for the country and give the best results. Jill Stein obviously has a better platform but I've given my reasons in the past for being against giving her a vote. Collectively as a whole I recognize foreign policy will probably be a disaster no matter who wins, but there are so many issues Harris is miles better.

Having said that I certainly don't fault anyone for not being able to bring themselves to vote for her for the Biden admin's horrible policies and handling of Gaza and Israel. I'd still argue you should vote for her if in a swing state, but in general those opting not to I totally recognize the rationale.

i could write books about shit like this that i see every monday night. About to present on magic mushroom legalization in a few hours and it's gonna be a bloodbath for me lol. it's okay though because the petitioners were smart and said locals can't prohibit it so all they can do is zone it and set the hours of operation :)

when I walked into my parents' apartment earlier tonight my dad opened with: "I voted against MCAS and for psychedelics!" and I was like yeah that's great but I think it's a teensy bit overshadowed by the top of the fucking ticket pops

I hear all of the billionaires are scooping up land in New Zealand and building doomsday bunkers there

I think that's more about being out of the huge swath of the middle of the planet that will get fucked up during nuclear war and less about avoiding the results of climate change though

Fuck. I have been seriously contemplating leaving Florida to escape the chaos that constant hurricanes are causing. I guess heat and drought are preferable.

That climate risk map makes Michigan look like one the places to be. I've thought about moving multiple times but that is always in the back of my mind.

all kidding aside, I thought Russia had the best prospects here with global warming making a lot of the far northern & eastern freezing cold areas more hospitable and habitable

I feel like that map isn't really helpful at all because it just shows what the top climate risk at each location is, but doesn't give any insight as to how high of a risk it actually is. An area with a lower risk for everything is still going to have show something as the top risk. And it doesn't account for areas that could have several different risks that are likely to be an issue

I think Russia is welcoming climate change because it opens up previously unobtainable Arctic oil reserves for them and opens up the Arctic ocean to new maritime trade routes they can profit from.
