I'd argue that laughing AT a movie isn't being into a movie. Meeting the movie on its wavelength is being into a movie. I've been to a good amount of repertory stuff post-Covid where it's clear a portion of the audience is there just to make fun of whatever it is or show how much better they are than it. It's gotten kinda exhausting. So many people trying to force a The Room/Rocky Horror thing.

Unless something naturally elicits laughter it’s actually super easy to watch a movie without talking

I also just don't understand, like, what makes you leave the house and pay money to see Vertigo if you're the kind of person who's going to laugh at Vertigo.

That’s a wild example. They’re idiots. I’m talking primarily about 80s horror, which is where most of the tweets I’ve seen are pulling from

Horror is definitely a whole other beast. With the right audience, it can be so much better. Barbarian in a packed theater is still one of the best film experiences I've had.

  7. I think a lot of the momentum for horror right now is based around humor/camp/winking self awareness, and while that’s great and for sure has always existed, I can definitely imagine (especially younger) folks that more recently started getting into the genre attributing those things to movies where it might not have been the intention or how the movie was originally perceived by audiences (edit: and yes I understand this happens with film in general not just horror)

With that said idk what else you’re supposed to do when you see the blow up doll get ripped through the little peephole in NOES. Of course you’re supposed to laugh

Depends on the drink. I’ve been served an Old Fashioned on crushed ice and it ruined the drink. The less ice the better for Root Beer as well

The worst seat at a restaurant is a high-top stool. I'd rather go home.

Sitting at a 45 degree angle at the interior of the booth allows you to control the conversation and assert dominance.
