That's nice and all but there are many people who voted for HRC that are telling protestors to stop and accept the results, basically to just lay down and take this because "there's nothing we can do."

They voted for a candidate that favored actions over words. we're doing exactly what they would.

I want to address this and the idea of loving the moderates who swung to the right.

How do we get them to understand what we are upset about, if we can't call them out at all without them shutting down? How is it possible to say "this is racist and it is not good to support it" without just sending most of them off anyway?

What do you mean by would they be treated the same?

Props to gaga, it's a start. but jesus that clip of Miley Cyrus crying or whatever? like, why don't you and Alicia Keys quit the voice right now midseason because you're pissed about the results. obviously you'll be replaced in an instant but America needs to see rich liberals sacrifice their dollar for their beliefs.

that is one of the common themes I saw among trump supporters, the idea that he would give it all up for the good of the country. obviously that's a false belief but the idea hit home for them. Hillary never gave that vibe, not once.

This is why I'm so sick of this unity let's come together bs. I'm not reaching out to people who don't believe in my first amendment rights and who damn sure don't believe in my POC and LGBQT+ brothers and sisters' right to exist

My friend lives in Long Island too, don't remember which county but I know conservative yacht and sailboat area is maybe 20 minutes away by car. Most of the people in her office are fine but like two people are the worst.

I'd wager Nassau because it's far more than a couple of people out here. it's crazy that with the overwhelming majority of my patients, I'm the first muslim they've ever met.

That's insane. I don't know how some people have never left the island.

She was actually harassed by two people waiting for the ER the other day and was scared for her life. It's not the best hospital I guess, she gets catcalled all the time, this time was way worse.

    Fuck it all

My g/f grew up near Jones Beach and they had maybe 1 or two black people in her whole high school. She hates when i point out how much her views about poverty, 'culture', and welfare benefits is shaped by the fact that she grew up in an upper middle class bubble and had very few interactions with people of color her entire childhood.

I thankfully never talked to her much about social justice and racial issues when we first met, when she was a sophomore in college and hadn't yet started teaching in schools here, which are much more diverse than where she grew up. Because her views are barely on the edge of tolerable now, after she's been exposed to children in poverty or in working poor families and after she's had students who talk about brothers/sisters dying and has had students die from gunshots and etc. She still gets entrenched in her "bootstraps" and "talking about the problem just makes it worse" nonsense, but I can't imagine how unbearable I probably would have found her views before her exposure to the "other side" of life.

A lot of similar stories I've been hearing about around long island and even queens. there were the girls on the st. Francis prep school bus telling girls of color to sit in the back of the bus. The nyu muslim student association had "trump!" Graffitied on their wall. And this stuff is happening in overwhelmingly blue counties.

America is becoming great again, exactly how trump framed it.

It's sad the way some people look at protests. I accidentally read some comments on Twitter but it was depressing. People saying expect to get shot if you're at a protest and asking what the point of them even is. surprised such advocates of free speech would say something like that!! but u know if it was trump supporters protesting they'd think it was a brilliant exercise of free speech.

Even if you didn't like the presidential candidates why didn't people at least vote for the other left wingers on the bill? Then again it doesn't surprise me that people aren't aware that's important

like, i can't believe we were talking about the importance of getting third part candidates to 5%. that was the priority.

What's the point of raising your voice and exercising your freedom for things like that when this might be the last chance you ever have to do it. Sickening.
