i cannot argue that this would be healthy for democracy long term (although maybe it would prove more healthy than having a racist, facist, idiot president?), but thinking about that Bernie caller, and looking the margins, i wonder how this would've played out if Clinton too hadn't been attacked by her primary opponent or at least if Bernie hadn't drug the process out. most of the time i've thought about the voters Bernie brought into the fold, but i wonder how many he drove away from her.

i'd lay the blame on a ton of things before that, just another what if.

 

Sooo shared the article Jason posted about conflicts of interest into the comments of the post I mentioned earlier. I shared it along with some information on Pence, because the poster has also claimed to be an advocate for gay rights.

The post was just facts, and I even appealed to the person by telling them I know they aren't outwardly hateful. The person gave me a shrug emoji, followed by commenting saying they are deleting the post because all they wanted to do was share their opinion for once.

So these are the people we're supposed to talk to and bring over to the left with kindness? Idk. When I try it it seems like they will have none of it.

I simply asked that, as an advocate for gay rights and a trump supporter, this person look further into those realities. They refused.

 

I agree that the fear mongering on the right is insane because their policies would exacerbate the issues, and they probably know this, but I disagree that things aren't bad enough for a large amount of marginalized and impoverished people that they would feel like they either need to vote third party or just flat out feel helpless and not show up to vote. For people of all stripes who are suffering, pointing to Obama's economic numbers is probably just continuing to talk past them. I know enough about you to know that to a large extent I'm not arguing with you, just sort of throwing some thoughts out there.

I don't consider those people liberals. I consider them ignorant. The basic premise of a liberal platform is that governments role is to protect everyone and ensure they have a level playing field.

 

Clinton still increasing that lead of hers, she is now up 47.8% to 47.3%, still plenty of votes to be counted. I don't know why I keep checking it'll just make me more sad

 

Yeah but what about those people down toward Miami. They wanted Clinton but will now have to suffer, and probably the worst out of anyone else

 

I think the last time he used it was the live show, when Wiger said to be careful using it now since it's been co-opted by the white nationalist movement.

I didn't say "they'll suffer for their sins" I just said that it's unfortunate but they're going to come to understand after all the screwing over they've done.

Hollywood elite, time to step up, March the streets, and obstruct the media until there's a change. imagine if all the Hollywood elite adopted some Syrian refugees? again, this is a collective movement and would be devastating to not only the public but also the economy.

But no, they'll cower. They'll take their moral high ground and just foam at the mouth during some bill Maher interview while black and brown individuals, who they "fight" for, are suffering at unprecedented rates.

 

Hypothetically, if a bunch of celebrities rioted like... would they be treated the same? I feel like they wouldn't. Gaga has been appearing at a lot of the NYC rallies so props to her.

 

Yeah I mean like I said there's definite work to do. But the rhetoric on the right paints a picture that's quite different from reality. Which in turn ends up hurting those marginalized groups even more. The whole "savior" complex throws me off because these issues are bigger than any one person and we can't "be saved" by one person. But people seem to think Donald trump is jesus fucking Christ and is here to save us all

No see im in Suffolk which went red by 20k votes this year. I came to quickly realize that my hospital reflects large swaths of america. the physicans, who largely drive the profit and capital of the hospital, have the steadiest jobs, are all higher educated and mostly swing liberal. the rest of the institution is predominantly low to middle class whites who can be replaced instantly and the majority of them never went to or finished college. these are the people that drove the results at the end.

It's crazy to me that the voting measures enacted to counter Jim crow and help poor minorities are now empowering a generation of uneducated, disenfranchised whites.

 

There have been protests here in Detroit all week as in so many other cities now and it's really hard to want to reach out to the conservative right with an understanding, empathetic hand of trust when the comment section under the Facebook event invites are filled with some of the most disgusting bile from trolls I've ever seen. Top that off with people driving by and throwing beer at us while they're hurling the same offensive insults I see in those comments.
