Any update? You good?

 

I was without power for about 20 hours. Very windy but no major damage in my neighborhood.

One consequence of power being out so long is it forces you to go outside and socialize with neighbors. During the outage I ended up making out with my nextdoor neighbor which I am now regretting. Cut it off when i got the vibe it was more than just a casual fun spur of the moment thing for her. Too much of a risk to turn messy and awkward.. Haven't talked to her since but I hope she didn't get the wrong idea and that she feels the same as me.

 

I saw Pearl Jam last night and they were incredible

I ate Blaze Pizza tonight for the first time in maybe… 4 years? Are they one of the many chains that dipped in quality post-pandemic? Because it definitely didn’t seem as great as it used to be. Honestly I’m really disappointed

 

how do y’all usually decompress from a period of taking in copious serial killer docs or anything as bleak aa that? I just got done with one on Gary Hilton. think maybe cute animal videos might suffice

 

I decided to reactive my Facebook account for the first time in over 3 years. Immediately regret it. Horrible UI, it took me wayyy too long to mass delete my old posts, and it's nothing but a bunch of people you knew in high school making dumb as hell political takes. Also I feel like it's a wasteland now. People don't post on it as much and I see people generally only get a couple likes per post.

 

I deactivated my Facebook in 2021 and have zero regrets. I’m honestly glad I left when I did.

The only social media I have now is Instagram. Tbh I’ve been considering just getting off of social media entirely for a multitude of reasons. But I feel like if I leave, I’m gonna miss out on news, happenings, etc, so I can’t quite pull the trigger

 

Thinking about how random making friends as an adult can be

I met my best friend 9 years ago bc I was at a show and they were the person in front of me in line for merch. When they left, they dropped their hat and I ran to give it back to them. Then they found me on Twitter that night after I posted a photo of the band, we exchanged numbers, and things took off from there

Another one of my closest friends is a coworker who was on my team for a year, but we didn’t really interact until a meeting where someone made an offhand comment about Guinness, to which we both mentioned how much we enjoy it. She suggested we visit the Guinness brewery in Chicago and when we went, we really hit it off

 

We get it Orla, you have friends in real life. Humble brag much?

 

Having friends is overrated

 

Purely anecdotal, but the Target by my place for some strange reason does not play music. You walk in and it’s silent, other than the sounds of people checking out and people walking around.

Did a night time Target run tonight and it felt kind of eerie…

 

I have really missed Max. hope his new venture is fruitful

 

Another reason I don't like FB: it's a different vibe there. Some of the posts and takes that would do great here or on Twitter get nothing but cricket chirps from former co-workers and shitheads I went to high school with 20 years ago.

Ironic shitposts don't play well on Facebook.

 

This was kind of the reason why I left Facebook a few years back. It’s like, why waste my time on an app posting for an audience of people you have no real relationship with anymore? Like, is some random dude I went to high school with gonna give a shit about happenings going on in my life and all that stuff?

I’m only on Instagram now and two years back I did a huge purge and limited me followers to close friends, family and co-workers. But even then I’m just starting to feel the same way I did when I deleted my Facebook. Even when I have exciting stuff going on in my life, no one bats an eyelash at it.

I feel like a teacher trying to teach a lesson to a classroom of students talking to each other. What’s the point of sharing the cool things going on in your life if your friends don’t give a shit?

 

I’m very aware of just how bad fries are for you, which is why I might eat like 15% of the fries that come with whatever I’ve ordered. might not be as healthy as not eating them altogether but ya gotta start somewhere

 

I read somewhere recently that apparently it’s healthier to just eat two hamburgers as opposed to eating a hamburger and fries

I’m doing ok. Had a bad panic attack a couple weeks ago and it’s taking some time to get back to normal.
