You can be angry and rhetorically divisive. I'll never say for a second it's not deserved or earned. But you'll lose. So that's the trade-off.

  9. Yeah. I know. I spent the whole damn election yelling about it. We don't even know where his debts are or where he owes money or what foreign debt he has. The tax return thing was a big deal too.

Trying to help the teachers in my department keep up with technology is basically a part-time job that's been added to my actual full-time job. And these are smart, in some cases brilliant, people.

    A DILAPIDATED BOAT! Prestigious

guy makes a pretty sound point about how many on the left's tendency to shut down debate with immediate implications of some kind of bigotry or stupidity instead of attempting to have a civil discourse or an attempt to understand the other side is what turns alot of people off of liberalism, and has alienated alot of people that the left could have otherwise of civilly educated and included to point where it has created a culture of resentment of the left that helped lead to the rise of the Alt-Right and Donald Trump.

Your response: "He said something I personally took in a context I found offensive so i'm going to disregard everything he said and not even try to offer a meaningful response or counterpoint"

Just a reminder that conservatives (i.e. TEA Party) decry over government spending. But if that government spending is in the name of defense and security...

First of all it's a bad argument that the left is solely responsible for the alt right. Or that the actions of the left (culturally) made the swing voters (who we are actually worried about) vote how they did to that degree. Fuck the racists and sexists, fuck his base. I will partake in no civil discourse with them. Second of all it's a gross misscharacerization and simplification of the lefts stances and actions in regards to things like racism sexism homophobia etc and it sounds like the rantings of someone who posts on 4chan.

Real talk after decades of "civil education" can't I just be like shut up you're a bigot go away? Isn't that the straight shooter non PC non safe space talk that they respect so much? Why do I have to keep spending all my time educating people who have never listened? I've tried. For like 15 years I've tried. What good has it done? How many minds have I changed? I'm able, pretty often, to tell when someone really wants to learn something or they are just an asshole. I've talked to millions of people at this point online in 15 years like can't I *please* just tell a few people to shut up and go away?
