On the first day of highschool I got my finger stuck in a chair. An ambulance was called and they lubed up the chair but the finger was too swollen. The fire department was called and they cut the chair off. This was before tictoc so I was shamed in the local newspaper. They sent me home early in case I was in shock but I was fine.

Why are people scrambling to find preexisting ip to latch onto, just write a new story w ninjas

 

A lot of the studios won't even let a pitch through the door unless there is some intellectual property tie-in to justify it. They made movies about a board game and a theme park ride.

 

The money boys that own the studios have no ability to discern what a good movie is or more importantly to them if it will be profitable.
Previously they've invented focus groups to try and help them, they didn't work but you could tell stockholders you were doing something.
The same thing is happening with IP, you can tell the rubes at the quarterly meetings which IP you will be selling and that provides more confidence than a mystery new story that will strike fear in their hearts, even though in reality it is in no way a better indicator of success.
Stupid ass speculative capitalism ruining things as usual.

 

I get it, to a degree, but it's so wild to have a release date before the movie is even filmed
