If I remember correctly Heart of Hush is not tied into the Morrison stuff directly. Morrison had the Batman title and Heart of Hush was the story in Detective Comics that was relatively independent. I think when it was releasing it was called a tie-in to RIP, but that’s mostly because it came out at the same time and not the story itself so you should be good just reading it on its own.

Thanks! I actually am kinda reconsidering though and might put the Batman & Son/Black Glove/RIP trilogy on my main reading list and then follow that up with Whatever Happened. I know Final Crisis technically comes after RIP but I'm hoping RIP can lead into Whatever Happened well enough that I don't have to read the big crossover event

The post-Final Crisis Morrison stuff I'll definitely get to after after everything else though

Started Remender’s Uncanny X-Force and it’s really interesting. I like the team he’s using and the fact that Fantomex is essentially co-lead of the book.

I remember really loving that book.

  6. Anyone read the DC All-In Special from this week? I'd consider myself a fan of both Scott Snyder and Wes Craig, but I was really disappointed. Felt edgy for edginess's sake.

I for one am not surprised that Joshua Williamson and Scott Snyder would write a major DC comic together with the Justice League and Darkseid, and end up with something bad, lol. I saw that the JL side started with a very Hickman “it started as an idea” line and was like, we’re doing this again?

Wow, Spider-Man Life Story was fantastic. Great art, too.

Also read all of the 2024 Ultimate Spider-Man so far and am obsessed. I need more. Now.

...and just banged out Spider-Man: Spider's Shadow haha. Also great.

Any other small runs I should look at? I've already read Spider-Man Blue

Absolute Batman was good, think I’ll need at least 1 full arc before I have any strong opinions. The art is obviously great

There’s a short story in I think one of the Lazarus Planet one-shots (the first issue will say where in an editor’s note) that leads into this, if you want that.

It was also reprinted in a free comic, I think called “We are Legends”? That had the short story intros for Spirit World, The Vigil, and City Boy.

  15. Yeah this was really good! Xanthe is such a great character, and the Spirit World lore is so cool. They popped up briefly in Birds of Prey, which I read first, so it was nice to see them in their own story. Also Cass!

Picked up #1 of Corin Howell's Lilith and Maria Llovet's Violent Flowers, and added them to my pull list alongside The Mammoth, Batgirl, and Birds of Prey, so now the stuff I'm subscribed to are either DC heroines or sapphic horror haha

Is The Mammoth written by Paul Tobin, or am I mixing up series?

If it’s the one I’m thinking of, I didn’t end up buying it yet, but I’m interested in checking out the trade.

  18. That's the one! Pretty good so far

  19. I got the first two volumes of Gail Simone's Wonder Woman for about $7ea. in hardcover at a record store. I think the rest of the run is only on paperback. For some reason the fourth one is going for a hundred bucks

Also picked up Wondergirl Homecoming there, and went to another bookstore and got Rare Flavors

So is this like DC's version of Ultimate?

Javier Rodríguez is my favorite current superhero artist. To have him collaborating with the brilliant Deniz Camp… so exciting.

100%, pretty shamelessly, lol. But it’s maybe more like the current Ultimate than the original, in that there’s some multiversal lore for why it exists, in this case involving Darkseid… but also, I personally don’t care about that lore.

All I care about is Kelly Thompson & Hayden Sherman on Wonder Woman, and Camp & Rodríguez on Martian Manhunter. (Also intrigued by Al Ewing Green Lantern.) Hopefully it’s like current Ultimate Marvel in that I can ignore what I don’t care about and just enjoy the dope books.
