I am going to avoid spoilers because I am expecting it to be bonkers in a bad way and very much looking forward to that

 

I won't spoil it, but I will say that that's not immediately what came to mind until someone mentioned it on Reddit. But I think at that point in the movie, I was so ready to be done with it, as well as it being such a baffling move that I wouldn't dream even a director as dumb as Todd Phillips would try to pull it off. But maybe he did!

At the end of the movie, Arthur Fleck is disgraced and abandoned by his fans after he admits there is no Joker, just Fleck. He returns to Gotham prison and is watching TV in the commons area when a guard tells him he has a visitor.

Fleck walks down a hallway and the guard leaves him there with a fellow inmate and I assume former Joker fan who tells him a joke, with the punchline being he shanks Fleck in the stomach a number of times. As Fleck is on the ground dying, we see the inmate blurred in the background laughing and starting to carve up his face, with the suggestion (so Reddit says) that this is the Heath Ledger Joker. Then the movie ends.

I guess Todd Phillips really went full New York, New York - and made a movie that could potentially damage his career

 

I feel like that Reddit theory doesn't make sense considering the films in question take place over 20 years apart

 

yeah the reddit theory makes almost 0 sense which makes the decision for Philips to do this even more bizzare because he knows thats the immediate connection people are going to make

 

I guess my question is zilla did you make that connection? Or just after seeing that theory on Reddit. Guess I’m curious what implies it’s the Ledger Joker

Yep, I think you’re right.

 

In the end, I think it’s just a reference because Harvey Dent is the DA and he also becomes Two-Face in this in a roundabout way.

The only thing I thought was Oh, it kind looks or sounds like he’s carving up his face like the Ledger Joker. I did not take it as them being one in the same. Just a dunderheaded Phillips referencing TDK.

 

God I’m going to hate this and I thought the first was fine
