    Jimmy Carter turned 100 today

He was the last sitting Democratic POTUS who was so unpopular with the left wing of the party that he faced a real significant primary challenge. The "most left leaning president of the modern era" historical revisionism on both sides needs to be challenged every time it is brought up.

Automation could be cool if we lived in an egalitarian society that prioritized shortening the work day/week without taking pay from people. If the idea was that it would be something used to make life easier for all workers, then sick. Seeing as that’s not the society we live in, I think automation should be fought across the board. Rushing into automation for the bottom line without a plan for how it would benefit the worker is stupid. Any benefit to consumers would, like Nate said, be a temporary sugar high before they got gouged again.

CNN Launches Digital Paywall in Major Strategic Shift

CNN Launches Paywall for Digital Content on CNN.com

"Starting today, we are asking users in the United States to pay a small recurring fee for unlimited access to CNN.com’s world-class articles,” MacCallum wrote. “The vast majority of the 150 million users who visit CNN.com every month will continue to enjoy the same experience as they do today. Only after users consume a certain number of free articles will they be prompted to subscribe."

I remember holding book clubs for my local DSA chapter new members back in 2016 on the ABCs of Socialism book from Jacobin and one of my favorite lines was that in a socialist society automation would mean more vacations not more layoffs or something to that effect

NYT also recently announced it putting up a paywall for the back catalogue of it's podcast library. I think only the 3 most recent episodes will be available for free on streaming platforms and to access past episodes it's $50 a year. The Daily fans are pissed.

I feel like I go out of my way to tell people I’m not a technophobe lol but when all new tech is built within the framework of ‘line go up forever’ I can’t really get that stoked about it

I always said I would welcome automating my job if I got the salary. AI doesn’t need to pay for daycare. But we know it won’t work like that and workers would just be forced into more and more competitive fields and the wrong people would be blamed because all both parties can talk about is jobs and they have no interest in using technology to relieve the working class of the slave labor capitalism mandates

Dude hit his midlife crisis early with this fucking rebranded look he has now. This whole college fuckboy chic thing he has going now makes him look ridiculous.

He looks like what the undercover cops in 21 Jumpstreet would dress like to go back to high school.

Legit sick to my stomach. People are setting up a “pray for Trump” thing just off the main road where I live. I rolled down my window and booed at them. But I feel awful now. Those absolute ghouls.

Massive rain of missiles right now in Tel Aviv; small explosion per missile though, so they must be fairly small.

Also saw footage of an Israeli gas rig out at sea hit
