based on the book series of the same name by peter brown

The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot—ROZZUM unit 7134, “Roz” for short — that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling

I’m so happy seeing this. The very first trailer had me feeling like this might be my favorite animated movie of the year and I’ve been anticipating watching it with my kids ever since.

This looks great and I'm a sucker for a good animated film that appeals to adults (no kids here, just a fan of animation when they're done right with cross generational appeal).

It's funny because as soon as the trailer ended my wife just looked at me and was like 'that's going to make me cry so bad isn't it?'. From those early reviews, yep. (Probably me too).

oh man this is great. basically succeeds on all fronts: visuals, voice work, good humor every now and then, highly affecting (i suppose especially if you’re a parent), it just WORKS. there are already people talking about how this deserves the animation oscar next year, and it’s tough for me to dispute even though i’m not sure how many of them saw chicken for linda or the claymation movie with the snail

either way, best dreamworks animation in ages. sucks that disney seems to be trying to bury this movie by dropping inside out 2 on d+ this thursday to take the wind out of its sails. but still, this deserves your time at the theater. i borderline luxuriated in it

seems to be projected for a roughly $35m weekend. better than i thought, it'd be great if this had some serious legs from how well-received it is

I think it’s going to have legs. There’s really nothing for kids until Wicked or Moana 2

I thought this was pretty good. Great visuals and some really funny moments, but a bit cheesy and I think the people who will resonate more with it on an emotional level will be parents, especially with older kids approaching middle / high school. I got what it was going for, but it didn't personally resonate as much with me as I expected so all in all it was a 'nice', entertaining, occasionally very funny, well animated flick.

Besides its climax, I thought it was fantastic. Beautiful animation and wonderful VO work. Up there with How To Train Your Dragon.

Nice! It totally felt set up for a sequel so I'm really glad it's getting one. I had no idea this was based on a book series.
