Liking this a lot after two listens. I would say a more mature sound and heavier than Gami Gang but perhaps not as instantly catchy. The first of their albums (including TBD) not to have a closer reference earlier track/s??? Or have I just not picked up on the connection yet?
Either way the closer is my favourite so far, man these guys can write a final track.

The twinkling reprise of the trap intro on gg still makes me smile every time.

Reading the Stereogum piece made me realise that while Origami Angel lyrics are never bad or dumb (sometimes twee or juvenile, previously) they are not the best way to sell the uninitiated on the band. I think the best "lyric" reference for the band would forever be:

    (Sick riff)
    Motherfuckin Gami Gang
    (Sicker riff)

I think their lyrics are fun. Nothing wrong with them, and they really capture the band's youthful energy for me.

Yeah to be clear I like their lyrics a lot. They are just not necessarily the kind of lyrics that jump off the page out of context (divorced from music and melody).
I saw one Stereogum commenter say how amazing it was that the chorus for Dirty Mirror Selfie has so many syllables yet is so catchy. That is kind of their super power I think. Or at least one of them.

riffs in this rule. Yip really leveled up the wall of sound for them. enjoying a good amount.

Listened last night when it dropped, and I was extremely happy with it. I think they really nailed it with the single selection. They previewed the album well but definitely didn't reveal all their tricks. There were moments when my jaw actually dropped.

Most of the way through this. On first listen I like it more than Gami Gang. This band knows how to do a good changeup so well

Need to give a more attentive listen but first reaction is that I think it's another great/phenomenal album by them. Some really cool moments. I enjoy heavier music but I feel I'm already tired of their more straight up hardcore parts. Otherwise all the other parts have the Gami sound I love that I think they're in a league of their own with

The guitar solo at the end of the title track is such a well-earned, cathartic moment to close the album (not to mention so perfectly executed) it nearly brought me to tears.

Really enjoying this whole album. Reminds me of a heavier, less predictable Relient K. Viral, Wretched, Higher Road, and the title track are really standing out so far.

This is great. They've really left their twinkly guitar parts behind and I think that's good. Even though I loved the twinkles, they've written so many songs with them that it's good they've evolved.

Kind of related but This Day Forward was on The New Scene podcast and his name came up from the singer of TDF.

“Yeah. Colors. I was in a band for a year in 2012 called Colors.

And that band was just really special. I felt the musicianship. I would just watch those guys practice and just be like kind of in all.

Our dear friend, TJ DuBlois, who passed away, he was the drummer for Colors. And I would just sit there on the couch watching him drum. I couldn't believe it.

And that was one band that I really wanted to put our record out because we had all 10 songs written and the album was going to be called You Are Here. And the first song was called Be Here. And it had really good flow to it.

We just didn't get to record it. And we disbanded before we could make that happen.”
