Just got back to the hotel. Saw a chunk of Fall Out Boy and a few NOFX songs on the way out. New layout works well and I think it’s just as crowded as usual but there’s less of a “one band everybody wants to see” sorta vibe so it’s a lot less congested.

At least that’s how it was for me.

That said… Today was awesome! The Lawrence Arms, Drug Church, Winona Fighter, and Get Dead have been my favorites thus far. In no particular order.

 

The hardcore dancing in the pit during Thriller was the most unexpectedly beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

then the pit devolved until it was people rowing and doing chorus lines. I’m in disbelief

 

Can’t have riot fest without a member of rise against joining a band. Tim joined fall out boy. Wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up at nofx or someone else from the band shows up at another set

 

FOB crowd was quite pleasant where I was at in the middle of the main pit area. Really enjoyed their set too.

 

“Get busy Livin…” was the highlight of the FOB set. It was a pleasant surprise! They sounded great - first time I’d seen them since about 07.

 

I’ve been seeing FOB for over 20 years and that was easily the best set I’ve seen them do in well over a decade.

 

That whole “Days Of Fall Out Past” Eras Tour thing they’re doing is fantastic. Should be a good indicator for When We Were Young.

 

That was maybe my favorite Fall Out Boy set I’ve ever seen. All I wanted was Get Busy Living so I was thrilled

 

I doubt they’ll ever top the 2013 Metro show for me, but this was closer than I expected.

 

The heat really knocked me out yesterday despite staying pretty hydrated, so I’m making it a somewhat shorter day today. Probably will just catch a few songs of TBS before heading home unless they’re really killing.

Yesterday was fucking awesome, saw FOB through the SRR era then went to catch NOFX/Marley Brothers. Outside of that I think Drug Church was my fav set of the day.

 

Cypress hill and fallout boy were my highlights. The Warning was my biggest surprise and favorite early set. Drug church, poison the well and souls of mischief all great as well.

Riot land at night is pretty cool, not sure if I’ll have a break that will allow for wrestling, burlesque or hellza poppin, but I hope to

 

Did something happen during NOFX’s set? They posted a vid of their set on Instagram that they called a “train wreck night 1” and then another post that said “that was, uh, a weird one…”

 

I overdid it yesterday, I am now as the kids say "cooked", in more ways than one.

This was the first full RF day I had since starting going in 2017. All sets were great, I barely had any time to rest. I even went to the Basement aftershow which was insane (crowd was rabid).

I will skip the rest of the days but will go to see SoCo tonight.

 

Also, why tf is no one selling iced coffee at these festivals? In this heat a cold cup of coffee is way nicer than those disgusting energy drinks.

 

I believe Dark Matter was selling coffee over by the food area...

 

I will say, the FOB production was some of the best I’ve seen in a festival setting. Went to two days of Lolla and saw The Killers and Blink and thought the money and production put into last night was better. It was a great time.

This dirt/dust situation is not ideal, goddamn. Had to bail from The Hives cuz I couldn't breathe.

 

That is one reason why avoid going to Aftershock. The air quality gets so bad a lot of people get sick. I really hate their Discovery park location.

Damn, this is always one of the most stressful things for me each year at Riot

 

I parked on that same block and gave the guy the $20. Wild to think I was that close to something so crazy happening if I had refused

 

Had a rough day and decided to call it quits early. I'll just treat the NOFX final Warped show as my last one haha.

 

If anyone is at the SoCo aftershow and needs a ticket for Riot Fest tomorrow let me know, I won't be going so it's a shame to waste it (it's a paper ticket, not digital)

 

Waxahatchee was such a great way to end the night.
