I like it. Thrones is my favorite FFTL album so I am hoping we get another album with Matt on leads.

I completely forgot that Spencer from Periphery did a full album with them lmao

And it was really solid! I'm still a little sad how uneventfully he left the band

I refreshed my memory last night for a few songs and it was a lot better than I remember. I forgot just how all over the place the band was during the 2010s with member changes and everything.

Got around to the new single, wow yea the BMTH comparisons weren't kidding. That being said I do enjoy it decently enough so I'm down with it.

I think that’s the one song I actually dug on that record lol

The rest was pretty forgettable IMO

  9. This is... an interesting listen. I mean on one hand I should be thrilled to hear the first FFTL song with Matt on lead vocals in 14 freaking years... except he hyperpop'd the hell out of his vocals to the point he's barely recognizable lol. Knowing their trajectory and what he's done out of the band, I guess the influences makes sense, but I do wish there was more to make it stand apart from BMTH.

I wouldn't even recognize the band if it had randomly popped up on Spotify. This is going to take a bit to adjust to the change for me.

EP. 310 - Matt Good #2 (From First To Last / Producer)

Not done listening but they talk about the band's situation very early on*. At some point, while discussing the current nolstagia for all things 00s emo, both the hosts and Matt saying they heard Brand New is coming back next year... not surprising but oof

*Basically, Sonny disappeared before COVID and they haven't heard from him since. They still wanted to do something so they got back together as a three piece, though Matt now sees the band as an art project with people coming in and out. He initially wrote ideas that were more along the lines of Dear Diary but wasn't excited by any of it so he threw it all away and pursued a different direction. He sees the album as a dying format and as of now they're putting out songs as they are ready to go. They'll eventually tour but nothing is confirmed so far.

    edit:

"Forgive me for asking, but was there anything or any cause for DRUGS to stop?"
"Hmmm, oh yeah basically so there was like just a big rift between everyone that wasn't Craig and Craig"

Not surprising either but hearing it laid out like that made me (and the hosts) lol

We reach for the longest shadow

Craig Owens continuing to be the most egotistical person continues to be the least shocking thing from this "scene".

His rant on people who say they like albums, but insists they actually don't, and only listen to 2-3 favorite songs. It's not how we listen to music anymore. It's disrespectful of the effort that goes into it. Releasing one at a time gives every song its moment to shine.

    jesus christ that hurts.

i like some of dear diary (it should have been an ep), ST, wolves and the singles with sonny but this band is pretty much dead to me with this anime aesthetic / whatever genre this is. they could have just started it under a new name.

I’d take this shit over the singles they released with Sonny any day.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with just releasing songs as you go, but I also don’t think albums are a dying format.

I’m also not releasing albums so I can’t really say what makes more money.

  22. Yeah I guess in the grand scheme things I may be an outlier but I almost exclusively listen to albums. Singles just… get lost in the shuffle, especially when everyone seems to put them out without a bigger release attached. Case in point, it looks like they released a third new one and I had no idea!

But that’s also on me for following too many artists. My Spotify feed doesn’t even show me half of what it should because of the limit so I have to use an app named crabhands to not miss out on everything…

  25. I meant this one but I’m curious to hear the other considering what was discussed regarding TX2, who I had never heard of, in the podcast.
