True true. I think the Wii U naming really messed them up though, so I feel like that would be a dumb mistake to make again. But it’s Nintendo, so we’ll see. Lol

That's true, but if Nintendo were to put a 1TB in this it would make the cost go up an extra $200 probably. I think that's why Nintendo has never tried to put alot of storage in their consoles.

well the Wii U was a mess to begin with, haha. part of me wonders how it would've been received by the general public if they distanced themselves from the Wii branding.

 

Oh yeah that’s totally fair. I don’t expect them to ever do 1TB. But 256GB just feels like a slap in the face when the minimum for other consoles has been at least 500GB and this will be 2 generations ahead of those. Warzone or an equivalent on Switch 2 could take up like half that storage space. Just seems insane to me to not have at least 500GB.

None of this will prevent me from getting one when I have the money for it though. Lol

 

Gladly: the images depict a prototype (Codename “XI6”) from about 2 years ago.

also the leaked spec sheet puts this so far above Steam Deck OLED’s performance that it’d need to bend the laws of physics.

it already sports some of the features of the final console (magnetic, railless joycons, and double USB-C).

Also notable omission in this leak: despite overly specific component list, they do not list the make or type of the display.

also the kickstand is wrong as the one on the final model reportedly also doubles as handle

Well for the record the leaker himself has disowned the leak but a switch 2 like this has at some point existed haha
But yeah he was working off of old/incomplete information.

I mean obviously it won’t be wildly different from this but not *this*.

 

I also have a 1 TB SD card in it. It just makes sense for going all digital on a portable console.

Hoping the new Switch looks a little more Nintendo than these images suggest because it has a distinct lack of personality.

I just want backwards compatibility though, if it doesn't have that then they majorly fucked up.

 

i remember hearing talk about how backwards compatibility might involve giving games you already own (physical or digital) next gen upgrades. i'm hoping this is the case so we don't have to double dip.

 

Wouldn’t physical be an issue in that scenario? You’d have to install the upgrade anyway and still have to use a physical copy to play. Again making that hypothetical storage size a dick move. Lol

 

My 128gb card filled up fast and I'm constantly archiving things. I have a 256gb card kicking around, it just sounds like a pain to transfer things over

1tb cards are expensive... I have a SanDisk Extreme in my emulation handheld and it was like $70-80

 

possibly. i'm not sure how much data is stored on the actual game card vs. the console, so i wonder how specifically they'd pull it off.

Well yeah it’s called Pokemon Legends: Z-A, not Pokemon Legends: Z-The.

 

Metroid Prime 4 and the next 3D Mario seem like safe bets for launch titles. Maybe one a few months after the other to give them space.

 

It needs to launch with some sort of Mario (it will probably be cross gen like BOTW). I think there’s going to be a year+ long crossover period where this thing will act all but like a Switch Pro. I’m also very hopeful we’ll see a Pokémon game by Q4 and something along the lines of a Fire Emblem or a Xenoblade.

I think Nintendo has been cooking and the next 18 months are going to be very, very special. :)

 

Monolith also had that non-Xenoblade game they were working on a while back that could be a good candidate for a Switch 2 title. Not sure if that got canned or what.

I put my original Switch model back in its box once I bought the OLED. I guess I’ll just have 2 Switches stored in my closet
