I can't believe that some tech nerd didn't open one of those pagers up and discover the problem before now. Was there actual explosive material with a detonator inside, or did the battery just get so hot that it exploded?

From what I can tell, with the way they exploded and the size of the explosions, they would have to have been tampered with pre-shipment, explosive inserted, and then distributed throughout Lebanon. Seeing videos on Twitter of the results, there's no way batteries themselves could explode like that, that I know of

Speaking of Call of Duty, I just randomly remembered that the Modern Warfare reboot from a few years ago featured:

2) a campaign level heavily inspired by the Highway of Death from the Gulf War, except in the game, it was the Russians that did it and not the Americans lol

Sources I'm seeing make it seem like it was likely an explosive material that was put over the battery, and the command sent to the pager was designed to heat up the battery high enough that it set off the explosive material

 

i feel like we're just subsidizing the privatized costs of child care. should nationalize some things.
