It just seems like she's holding in and holding back. It's subtle and it's not my thing. You First and the News are the only songs where I enjoy the style and it seems like it's not held back, subtleness or whatever.

I like the Pop/Punk sounding Hayley that's all. No shade.

I don’t totally agree with the critique as it’s worded but i definitely get where it’s coming from. it seems disingenuous to not understand what OP means. The album as a whole is a very different vocal style and if you don’t like it then it’s easy to see why the less desirable parts dominate the perception of the album.

Oddly specific and imperfect analogy, but it reminds me of when people said they missed the guitars when FOB released save rock and roll (I think it was that one) and the rest of the thread ate those people alive because there are in fact guitars on the record - but it’s very obvious what people meant.

 

I still think the “where are the guitars” comments were silly.

 

I don’t get where it’s coming from, like, at all. There are vocal highlight moments on damn near every song and her holding back and not always just belting it out, plus the variety of vocal styles, shows how she’s improved as a vocalist.

 

I like how she sings on every single album except I do not like how she sings on the new album. Improved or not. I enjoyed hearing her belt a little bit with Taylor. I regret bringing it up, I do hope to hear her old vocal style more on the next album. I do not like green eggs and ham, and if you do that's okay.

 

Just listened to that clip and her voice sounds no different than on the TIW record like at all. I don't mean you need to love the record, but she sings that very same way on a lot of her vocal parts

I mean, honestly. I would've prob been more like that when I was younger if social media was more pervasive. Instead my version of stan wars was defending whether my favorite artists were punk or not on various forums lol
