Out of left field but I was really annoyed people kept broadcasting Laura Loomer for however long recently because she's a pointless hack --- and now she's Trump's right hand, maybe a bit too literally. Pretty sure she's echoing Trump's hatred for his own MAGA people to say things that he knows he can't cause he's probably been told 1000 times to stop attacking Republicans.

 

Skyline chili dogs absolutely rip. I never really ate the noodles with chili.

 

Also, Trump announced some kind of policy about “no tax on overtime” and i haven’t had the chance to read about it but unfortunately it has my members SO hyped rn. I’m sure - to the extent it even actually exists - it’s snake oil, but it’s the most I’ve seen our members talk positively about either candidate all election.

 

Its not random, the goverment chooses where to put them. I assume they consult with industry but never with community they will be going to.

What should I do if 20,000 Ohioans try to move to my city?

I wouldnt want to live in Ohio its not my culture but I do understand for the people that live there its important to them, its thier home and the only place they feel like they belong. "Theres nothing worth protecting" yes the only reason they like it is because thats what they are use to, and now it doesnt even do that.

Im not trying to be anti-immigrantion, Im happy to share my community with as many refugees as It can sustain. Im look for leftist theories on immigration because the only arguments im hearing are from liberals who are telling the community to shut up and be grateful we made our line go up you racists, and from conservatives who are insane rascist.

I want a better approach than "shut up and assimilate" its a gross message, its bad policy for the future, every time we do it it will have the same results, the community is unhappy, the fascist use it to stir up hatred and bring people to thier side, and the immigrants get attacked.

Im also not concerned about this case in particular or to avocating for removing the Hatians, its already done their only option is to shut up, enjoy creole food and vote for the fascist.

 

I haven’t really been in Springfield these past 5 years, but I used to go there for work all the time. It’s a pretty diverse community, historically blue collar, they had a long-time Democrat mayor when i was working with them periodically (Warren Copeland, he was a really nice old guy who i believe passed away last year), not very MAGA-y at all. I’m sure MAGA influence isn’t far away, it being Ohio and everything, but it was kind of like a satellite of Dayton when I lived there. Most residents I met were interested in trying to find a way to get good jobs there and address the fentanyl crisis. Those were issues there before the refugees started to arrive.

 

Be sure to remind them that Project 2025 calls for the end of overtime pay. Let them this know this “no tax on overtime” is indeed snake oil.

A perfect example of someone who got the fuck outta Cleveland the second they could afford to.

 

I grew up roughly a half hour south of Cleveland, right where the suburbs start opening up into farm country. High school was roughly 2400 students and I could probably count minority students in the whole school on two hands with a finger or two left over. I’m still in my hometown Facebook group and it’s surprisingly (or I guess not surprisingly, really) casually racist; lots of talk about “caravans of illegals marching through town” and more than a few “recommend me a good Chinese place, no cats please lol” posts.

They made Vice News a few years back when their high school quarterback (one of those very few minorities) took a knee before a game during Kaepernick doing the same. Parents were shouting monkey noises from the stands and someone hung a noose around his side mirror of his car.

I don’t know a ton about Springfield other than there’s a small college there, but in the last month and a half they’ve had Neo Nazis (some group called Blood Pride) disrupt a music festival and the same ones also disrupt a city council meeting to warn them about what would happen if more Haitians showed up. Gives you an idea of where all of the racist rhetoric came from.

I’m glad I left.

I want less nazis
Im asking if we have a different theory on immigration partly because the current system and messaging being used by liberals is predictably creating fascist, not just in Ohio (which i hear really sucks) but all over europe.

I get that Ohio is bad but left has answers to those problems; economic systems, unions, education, universal healthcare, harm prevention drug polices etc.
I think the left was correct to listen to the concerns of the poor communities who got gentrified by rich white people, not just because they raised the rent but because their arrival fundementaly changed the culture of those communities, and they had no agency in that process.
If our response to those concerns is just "actually Ohio sucks get gentrified", we will have to live with the fascist that creates as the right wins them over with insane racist propaganda while promising disgusting mass deportation polices.
