Keeping an open mind but these comments don’t have me particularly optimistic..

What I won’t get, if this truly does harken back to the Erase Me sound, is why they would go back to that type of sound?

They openly talked down on Erase Me on their socials around the time when Voyuerist was coming out and Voyuerist ended up being pretty well received (compared to the mixed reception Erase got) so..: huh?

This is coming from someone who actually likes Erase Me but Voyuerist is a much better middle ground IMO

Yeah this is a complete 180 from what I was directly told their direction was going to be. Weird.

I was told a while back that they were gonna release an EP but it sounded like they decided to work on it more and make it an entire album.. but perhaps the direction changed during that point?

Big bummer if true but this is all massive speculation so TBD

  10. We'll find out in a 10-part documentary series that details how much they fought, to the point of almost breaking up, to make this album come to fruition

    Available on all platforms soon

My best bet is "Teeth" will be a red herring in the overall sound of the album. This scenario reminds me of Norma Jean releasing "Call for the Blood" as the first single off Deathrattle Sing for Me. It was pretty jarring, confusing, and didn't sound like the band's traditional sound. Once the entire album dropped, the majority of the songs sounded like a slightly more experimental Norma Jean, but the core sound was there and nothing was as much of a departure as the first single.

It wouldn't make sense for the band to make a -complete- 180 musically while touring on They're Only Chasing Safety. That's just asking for trouble, you'd think.

Edit: Heard the whole song. It's really short and doesn't pick a lane between soft and heavy which makes the whole listen even more awkward in my opinion. I highly doubt I'll be revisiting this song moving forward.

If its a radio friendly sound good on them for putting their best foot forward in getting new music out there. I haven’t heard it so I can’t say. Stoked to check it out tomorrow.

lol this is like when any band releases a shitty album and then people think “maybe the REAL album will drop next week!”

it’s up on their youtube. I do not think it sounds anything like erase me, but it’s a swing for sure. im curious what the next single will sound like. definitely interested in what this is in the context of the record. the sample is cool. will need some time with it. i do appreciate they’ve never made the same record twice and all the music since the reunion have been distinctly their own thing rather than phoning in their past releases lite. i like this better than the most recent one off single. people are definitely going to freak out.

I am all for bands taking creative swings within the context of an album, but as a first single it's a pretty bizarre choice.

I would think a band would want their first single to either be something familiar for their long-time audiences or at the very least something that strongly represents the album as a whole.

Which this could be! It could very well be indicative of the album. I don't dislike it, but I imagine the majority of their fanbase will.

I think it's great! One of the few bands in the genre that don't make the same thing twice or at least they go for something bold. Funny the beginning vocals/music I was getting some owl city vibes then quickly sounded like could be an idea Chris Dudley had for a horror movie soundtrack/score with some electronics.. feels movie-like

I dig it. If it’s any indication of the album as a whole, then I’m not sure how I’ll feel, but I’m down to see what they do.
