i mean you have to give them your banking info if you’re paying by ACH anyway, which you should, unless you can get credit card points on it lol

 

My current place I moved in 2018 and they needed three recent pay stubs when I was applying for the apartment. I assume that's normal nowadays

 

that’s quite wild. ill never understand how people find quality of life in NYC with the price of everything. my 1100sq ft renovated loft space in downtown Buffalo is $1650/month with internet and electric included, live walking distance to three venues and like 20 bars/restaurants.

I know NYC is a completely different scale, but I’m not sure having to suffer through the rent costs (and possibly roommates ugh) is worth it.

Your reaction is making me realize at 37 years old just how much more fucked NYC rental market is compared to other cities. Lived here all my life, this is all I've ever known. But yes you need to provide all of your current bank statements to the rental agencies to prove you have "sufficient" savings. You also need a letter from your employer confirming that you make 40x the monthly rent amount. And then after that you need to pay the rental broker a fee that is 15% the annual rent.

NYC rental market is absolutely fucked up. Wish I left sooner.

 

any apartment I ever rented I just needed first, last & security, except for one time I needed that and to show my credit score was above a certain number

 

i had to show paystubs to get my place and then they immediately raised the rent above what they would’ve approved me for lol
