67 on Metacritic, 92% on RT. Wouldn’t say they’re tearing it up broadly but the folks who don’t like really don’t.

I’m enjoying it even if parts still don’t click (everything with Rhun). The Sauron stuff I really like though.

I’m enjoying this second season. I really think the balance of release 2 or 3 episodes at once and then one new episode per week afterwards is perfect for most shows. It keeps me interested and the conversation lasts longer.

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

It’s ok so far for me. Don’t find this much different from S1. Like some of the plot lines but others are a complete snoozefest. Feel like a lot of the plot lines haven’t really gone anywhere over 3 hrs in. Too many scenes of characters who haven’t been developed enough sitting or standing around having conversations I don’t have a reason to care about yet. Sauron is the highlight. Love how they’re showing his deceptiveness with the Celebrimbor. The opening with him in ep 1 was great. Think the music/visuals are really well done overall once again. Some stuff like wardrobe still way too polished.

Just finished the first 3 episodes of S2. Episode 2 was the most interesting to me so far. I’m way more invested in the Sauron/Celembrimbor story arc than anything else. The Galadriel/Elrond/Gil-Gilad story is okay, but I couldn’t care less about the numenor stuff in episode 3. The stuff with Gandalf, I mean the “stranger”, is okay as well. Not really invested at the moment, but I know from the trailers it will lead to Bombadil so that will be neat.

Ep 4 might be my favorite of the season so far. Tom Bombadil was great, of course.

Bombadil was great. The ents were great too. Every episode should feature Sauron/celebrimbor and the dwarves. Those storylines are clicking the most for me

Lord of the Rings’ Most Polarizing Character Is Finally on Screen. He’s a Real Mess-adillo.

this is a great piece. especially the stuff about a "third road" which represents the natural world, uninterested and unrelated to the affairs of human ambition and morality. something Tolkien clearly understood but seems antithetical to most modern commercial storytelling, particularly in the West

it's funny. Tolkien's work is the basis for a ton of modern good vs evil tropes but he saw the value in depicting the world outside of it, even if he felt beholden to representing a Catholically-influenced two-road viewpoint in his fiction. you see the embrace of that "third road" in Miyazaki's stuff especially. small wonder when Hollywood adapts this material they lean on the Catholic stuff and either ditch the pagan, or co-opt it or "convert" it to something more dichotomous as they appear to have done with Bombadil

I like Bombadil’s stance so far in the show. He shows there is clearly good and evil and knows which is which (with some care). Whereas in the books he seemed oblivious to it all. He admitted he wasn’t a warrior though, which is why he can’t stop Sauron and will instead help the stranger (Gandalf) become who he’s meant to be to fight in his stead.

Really hope Goldberry shows up in the show too

the prancing pony podcast is great. And they do a rings of power wrap up that discusses the show itself along with how it ties to the books. They go super deep though so the nerd of the rings is better for 20-30 minute digestion instead of like 2 hours haha

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

Losing me with ep 5. Pretty uneventful and boring. Numenor stuff is getting worse. The Dwarves were the only thing this ep that really did anything for me.

Ep 5 was definitely an episode that only exists to build up what comes after. Wasn’t a huge fan of it, but I’m ready to see things shift into gear next episode

I think this latest episode had some great tension building. I'm looking forward to seeing the larger battles coming up. I've thought this season has been a solid 8.5/10 so far. Great television that I look forward to each week and more shows need to release on Fridays.
