When this song (the only Red song I think I’ve listened to?) came out, people talked about the band sounding like early Linkin Park without the rap. So, maybe Mr Red should’ve been the new singer.

Michael Barnes, and while does have a great clean and screaming voice, it's a different range altogether from Chester. Also, I wouldn't want anything to take away from Red. Red has strings, Linkin Park doesn't.

You still can be! They still make albums and they're still just as good as Pepperidge Farms remembers!

Loved Of Beauty And Rage, it felt like a more artistic veer after the somewhat misstep that was Release The Panic.

My favorite will always be Until We Have Faces though.

Fantastic band, has never put out a bad album, always brings the heat. Looking forward to the next one. My go-to is actually Hats Off To The Bull, but I could listen to any of them, really.

i remember the lead up to the album cycle for UWHF. i didn't have a Facebook account at the time, but they were giving away an expanded digital album booklet via Facebook and i always wanted to get my hands on a copy. i think the I&I ARG was the first ARG i remember hearing about.

Don’t worry, LP diehards are being totally rational with the statement.

I mean… it’s a good statement… not really sure what more she’d be expected to say tbh. That was my main concern regarding her, and at least for me personally, she addressed it. Glad they didn’t just say nothing and try to wait for it to blow over.

i disagree, on the first read it sounds like a good statement but it’s very much watered down

The last sentence especially screams mental gymnastics.. “..and I empathize with the victims of these crimes” sounds more like a general statement regarding victims of abuse as opposed to the particular victims in the Danny Masterson case. “To say it as clearly as possible..” yikes

"Scientology is an abusive cult and I am no longer a part of it" would be nice

Took the words right out of my mouth. It’s a very carefully crafted statement that reads almost as if it came from the church itself.

It would be nice, but as many people have pointed out, it could be dangerous and not just for her at this point, I imagine.

Linkin Park vs. Scientology is not a battle I had on my bingo card for this year, that's for sure.

  21. Sorry for the long post lol

For the last day, I’ve been conflicted about my feelings towards Linkin Park and Emily Armstrong. This was *my* first favourite band outside of any music my parents raised me on. Their music has always meant a lot to me and soundtracked two decades of my life, so I was devastated after Chester’s passing and couldn’t listen to their music without crying for about a year.

I was excited when I was watching the livestream, saw the news, and wrote a news article about the band’s return with Emily on board for work. I was excited by her voice and how she warmed up to the songs as the set went along. Then, I saw what so many of us saw - her ties to Scientology and Danny Masterson. I researched for hours yesterday, found more sources, read comment boards, and tried to work out how I was feeling.

After seeing her statement, I stand by how I felt yesterday: I don’t expect Emily to denounce a powerful cult like Scientology, but I really hoped she’d say something about her support of Danny Masterson.

Honestly, I’m happy with her statement. I’m sure some people won’t be, and I understand that too. I know it’s watered down and probably drafted by a lawyer. But what gets me is that Emily is a second generation Scientologist - I’ve read and seen a lot about Scientology and know how hard it is for people to escape. I know that people who leave or criticise it after leaving are named “suppressive people,” and subsequently cut off from any family and friends still in the “church”. Leaving a cult and remaining OK requires a significant support system, and if Emily doesn’t have that, or doesn’t want to upset that (if she or family are still connected), I feel for her there.

We’ve also seen how Scientology attacked Cedric and Chrissie and countless others in Leah Remini’s documentary, so I understand if Emily is doing her best to protect herself and isn’t denouncing Scientology.

I also know some second-generation cultists - one of whom was engaged to my sister - and wow, the programming they’ve been raised in, how hard they fought against it to try and fit in, and moving back closer to the cult because they don’t know another way, is honestly tragic. I hold a lot of anger for parents who selfishly indoctrinate their kids like that.

I’m still cautiously optimistic about Linkin Park’s future - I can’t lie and say that I can look past all of this with ease, because I can’t - and hope that everyone is happy and if Emily still has ties to Scientology, it’s not harming the band or anyone around them.

I’m watching that launch concert now, after initially thinking that wasn’t my main concern. And, hearing familiar Linkin Park songs with a woman on co-lead vocals is really scratching something primordial in my brain, lol. (Which, honestly, I should’ve expected.)

The new full length album is gonna be something else for me. And, if the full tour(s) end up in my region, I’ll spend stupid money on shit seats to experience that show.

  25. There’s more nuance than we’d like to admit in knowing about/supporting people in cults, haha
