Is the Peter Thiel backed thing he's doing now? I stopped following him forever ago because he kept showing his ass online over and over again.

 

What a bleak, but albeit true statement to have to write. I have no idea what the stance on gun ownership is amongst those in here as I know a lot of surprisingly liberal people who own guns, but It'll take a lot for me to understand. It's probably coming from a place of privilege, but there's a lot in my life I'd change to feel safer before I owned a gun, and too many people vehemently defend the right for no reason whatsoever besides they can and that leads to situations like these. It's a mental health, cultural, and availability crisis that who knows what it will take to solve.

We all know how much people like to shit on half measures, and make gun control the only issue where if it won't fix the issue completely, we should do nothing. Imagine if seatbelts were never made into law because people still die in car crashes anyway so why implement a right infringement that won't wholesale solve the problem?

I’m not aware of what you’re referring to, but I do know Nate Silver has been a huge dork online for at least a couple of years now. Hopefully that extends to his model too.

 

I actually attend Eastern divine liturgy more often than the Tridentine rite due to distance. And have visited St. Louis' Copt community for 1st vespers fairly frequently, along with the various Uniate and Orthodox communities in the STL area. But yes, my philosophical allegiance remains with Rome, though I do critique the ultramontane strain since Vatican I.
