I don’t know why it’s so difficult for you to understand the difference between conventional war and systematic genocide. I have to imagine you are smart enough to do so, so this feels like purposeful ignorance.

It’s inconceivable to me that another country would drop a nuke on a major population center. No one has but us. But, sitting here in your hypothetical: if I were alive in the years following us dropping that nuke, and I in turn had a nuke dropped on my city, I’d get it. What else should i expect.

 

“Let’s drop one nuke to show the world we can, and another nuke to show the world that we’ll do it again” is monster logic. That is us. I don’t feel like we can condemn the resistance of people who are under our heel. We prop up Israel. Harris/Biden/Trump/whoever we vote for props up Netanyahu. How people resist that is their prerogative.

 

That’s not what collective punishment is. It’s desperate resistance.

 

No I mean say the US doesn't nuke Japan first. Just does all the other evil stuff we did. Is dropping a nuke on LA a justified response for Japan at that point?

seems to me that the answer is no. There are innocent people there who, while complicit in their governments atrocities, still are not worthy of death.

 

Is killing the people who killed innocent people wrong? Or are they allowed to keep killing innocent people, it’s the innocent people who would retaliate that are wrong. Those people need to be stopped so the people killing innocent people can get back to the killing uninterrupted.

it’s not killing innocent people per se that’s wrong, it’s disturbing the balance of power that allows some innocent people being killed to not be a problem.

You understand how none of the circumstances at play here - IE, the circumstances faced by Palestinians/Native Americans/American slaves that people have been referencing to you for the past day - are present in your analogy, right?

What if it’s a nuke that you launch at an asteroid coming to destroy the earth? What if baby Hitler is on the asteroid?

I'm not really sure "everyone there was forced to be a solider at some point" is really the winning argument you think it is. First off, its not even true plenty of people were killed who were never in the IDF. And secondly, especially when conscription is mandatory and you're brainwashed your entire life by your government that doesn't completely absolve you of responsibility for your actions but it certainly plays a role and shows out the outrage should be on the government not on the people its using as pawns

Imagine this wall separating you from your former land where the medical supplies are located, where they can turn your water off, where they shut off your electricity, where they take your brothers and sisters at will and imprison them, where they shoot you if you try to breach. Now imagine you militarize to fight back and you finally breach this wall to take hostages to strengthen your position and kill your oppressors on the other side. Isn’t that just like flying across an ocean to drop two nuclear bombs on citizens of another country that you know is planning to surrender in a world war of military powers?
