Lately it feels like when I've gone out to eat it's kinda mid which is disappointing when I'm going outta my way to go somewhere and everything is always so expensive. But went out to eat at a plant based restaurant and it was soooo good. I got stir fry handmade noodles with veggies and tofu. My bf got the plant based chicken sandwich and fries. Drinks were great too. Service was nice, place wasn't too loud, wasn't crowded, and food and drinks came quickly. Didn't realize how many places don't have those few things going for it until I went somewhere that did!

 

I have not had a bad meal at a plant based restaurant. That looks so good @Kiana

 

True tbh. So lucky I live in such a plant based diet friendly area. I'm gonna be in Idaho for most of the week and I'm bringing a bag of protein shakes and a baggie of whey isolate because I feel like it's gonna be rough food-wise for me lol. Last time I went to idaho even the veggies on menus were all cooked with bacon fat and stuff and I was so hungry

Anyone familiar with the food scene in Portsmouth NH? Looking for dinner recommendations

 

quite familiar with a lot of restaurants in the portsmouth area, anything in particular you're looking for?

 

River House is good. Surf is apparently great, but expensive. The goat has super cheap wings on Wednesdays (garlic parm is great). My mom really likes Rooftop at the Envio. Probably also expensive?

Thirsty Moose and Flatbread Pizza are a good time, but they're small chains that are all over the state at this point. But still, you can't beat the beer selection at Thirsty Moose. They are famous for having like 60+ beers on tap.

Otherwiseee I don't go out to dinner enough in Portsmouth despite living close by lol

 

Just gonna post some of my favorite places in the Portsmouth area off the top of my head, most of the Kittery places are like a 10 min drive from downtown. But think I gave a good variety. Theres plenty of others I've never been to that could be great. We tend to avoid the most expensive places in Portsmouth:

Moxy - American Tapas, great date spot or just generally good for sharing small dishes with a smaller group. You will spend money here though. Never left without dropping at least $200 for 2 people.

Durbar Square - Nepalese Food, their momos are a must have but everything here is incredible.

Tulsi (Kittery) - Small family owned Indian restaurant. Nice sit down spot with tons of options.

The Corner Pub (Kittery) - Classic but well made bar food and a great local rotating tap list.

Loco Coco's (Kittery) - Pretty good Mexican spot for the area. Full service sit down or take out with self seating. Their burritos are the highlight. Great portions. Also good tap list imo.

Vida Cantina - Higher quality Mexican in an old Friendly's building, more authentic than Loco Cocos and definitely pricier. All locally sourced ingredients when they can as far as I know. My favorite tacos in the area.

Kitchen - Great spot for a well made burger or sandwich with a fresh local brew. Duck Burger or Lamb Burger are my go-to's.

Street - International street food fusion. You can get anything from felafel to bibimbap. Lots of variety. Usually very busy.

The Soupery - Literal closet sized hole in the wall place but some of the best soup I've ever had. Right next to their other business 'The Juicery'. I bet you can guess what they sell there lol

Gilley's Diner - Classic American burgers and dogs diner car. Simple and old school. Not much more I can say about this one.

Green Elephant - Vegetarian/Vegan Friendly Asian Fusion. Only been once but very good option if you're vegetarian or vegan.

Caffe Kilim - Turkish cafe and market with the best cup of coffee in the area imo. One of the only good spots for coffee downtown since the other local cafe I went to got bought out and turned into an Italian restaurant. And the starbucks on the square shut down as well not that it was ever a first choice for me.

I don't eat out at different places as often as I should up there but our go-to spot is River House, as the prices are pretty reasonable and their deck on the water is a nice place to sit. Food isn't amazing but is pretty decent, although the clam chowder is great.

Also stop by the Irish store to get some Tayto's and frozen sausages/bacon/pudding to make at home

 

Here’s what I made for Labor Day yesterday. Chipotle marinated flank steaks with a red chimichuri. Sauce and marinade I made from scratch and grilled some French bread crostinis to serve. Couple Shields red snappers as a bonus treat as well. No pics of the assembly but thin sliced the flanks to serve on the bread with some of the chimichuri on top. Will definitely be doing this again!

I made soup and salad. All plant based and not bad. But probably easier and cheaper if I'd just bought it from the store

 

Was in the mood for Thai yesterday. Panang beef curry, tom kha soup, and I believe that’s pad kee mao in the back there.

 

I love thai food but we hardly ever get it due to my daughter's peanut allergy

 

i will order pad kee mao any time I see it on a menu

 

I like Thai food but its probably my least favorite southeast asian cuisine. It has more to do with me not finding a favorite yet.

Damn I need that. Absolutely love Thai curry. Think Massaman is my personal favorite. That with a few chicken/pork satays to start and Im in heaven.

 

I have never had Thai or Indian food. I'm uncultured

 

You’re missing out. Indian food is amazing

 

I definitely have been meaning to try it. My old coworkers family used to own an Indian restaurant but they closed down last year. Bummed I missed my shot with them!
