My brain still goes to "Laid to Rest" anytime I play my guitar in drop D. I still can't play it as fast as they do, haha.

Thought it was a studio recording, but instead looks like they recorded the audio from the performance and released that instead. Still sounds dope

the riff on “give me the painkiller” on the new nails album has a riff that sounds like “carry me home” by the living end. but on like, a few grams of meth and pcp. insane album so far.

Laid to rest and hangar 18 are my go to guitar warm up songs haha

Edit: and that’s a result of both being on guitar hero 2 which I used as inspo for songs to learn when it came out

Whole nails album is really wild. You will never be one of us wore real thin real quick with the hardcore posturing at the center of it all but this one’s back to just no bullshit powergrind

I'll provide some thoughts lol. Some of these albums I haven't listened to since I did this list and some of them have moved up and down ratings wise. Quick thoughts:

    - Rust in Peace too high and for sure not the best one on there
    - I don't remember the last time I willingly listened to Opeth or Rainbow. Same goes for Mercyful Fate, Agalloch, Dream Theater, Electric Wizard and countless others
    - I don't recall a single note from Mayhem, Emperor, Immortal, Darkthone, or any of the big black metal albums. I came out from this experiment realizing black metal was not very interesting to me (that has since changed) but man these classics just were not memorable at all. Oddly enough with the turning of the weather I found myself wanting to revisit them, starting with Emperor
    - grind is still my least favorite/listened to genre. sorry @swboyd :(
    - Crystal Logic is a perfect album and should be higher
    - some bands have no business being on this list, like Kamelot and Hammerfall
    - can't believe I had Motorhead so high, no desire to return to them (for many reasons)
    - Sodom is underrated
    - still can't stand King Diamond's voice
    - Dismember and Suffocation would be WAY higher if I listened to them for the first time today. Hell even then I knew I wasn't in the right headspace for those albums and the ratings suffered for it
    - Dimmu Borgir is a joke and I never made it through that album. Someone on this site (or the other one) suggested it and I'm forever mad at them
    - Godflesh, man. I've revisited that album many times since then and I was not ready for it at the time. It's a 7.5 at the VERY least
    - thrash metal is still best metal

I don't ever remember reading an announcement of someone leaving a band because they don't tour enough, and they want to be on the road more. Kudos for knowing what you want. Wild he waited 5 years to do this. Is Dez a jerk? Feel like I've read that about him in the past.

joke response - there are multiple dojos you are shaming here, jordan.

serious response - when work's not so busy, i'll have something to craft, but there's a lottttt to unpack here, namely i have no idea how in the hell you have like an everflowing stream rated so lowly while having jester race so high, but that's my first of many subjective takes.

bear in mind that this was 8 years ago !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have since revised my takes a lot. but as far as Dismember is concerned - I had already listened to In Flames for years prior to this experiment and was definitely biased towards them. For some reason I just couldn't get into Dismember at first listen, but that has since changed !!!!!!!!!!!!!
