I've never watched The Last Drive-In and I feel like a bad person.

  2. It's fun! My wife and I aren't huge board game people so the rules are a little over our head, but we manage. We've played it with friends a few times!

Totally understand the feeling, I missed a free Jimmy Eat World concert in my city a couple of weekends back because of a wedding my wife was in, and they're a bucket list band for us. Who are you seeing?

Never too late to join The Mutant Fam!

Yeah I'm gonna watch the beginning but I can't ever hang. I'll try my best, but I'm just so stoked to see them getting to do something like this 6 years later since the initial marathon was only meant to be a one and done.

    "I'll chew on a dog!"

Oddity was very fine. It has some great direction and the storytelling is cool but the plot ultimately feels something like a middling Tales From The Crypt episode. There was a 1-2 punch of scares in one scene that got me really good.

  8. Just watched Disconnected. I really liked the vibe of it, even though it was really slow. Had some really cool shots, and good casting overall. Probably don't need to watch it again. :-)

  9. Disconnected (1984)? Vert weird and cool movie. You should check out Psychos in Love if you haven't! It's better and a little more accessible.

Just got out of Afraid. Pretty big stinker but mildly fun I guess. My family and I had been on vacation for the past week and it was nice to see something again.

Plan on doing Blink Twice on Tuesday and Beetlejuice on Thursday.

  12. AfrAId looks like dogshit imo but I did see a mildly creepy looking thumbnail of a person with very scary teeth on Youtube advertising to buy tickets

Also, I saw a Letterboxd review for Blink Twice that said "Don't Worry About the Menu Darling, Get Out" and I'm unsure what to think because one of those movies is great, one is solid, and one is bad lol

Saw Strange Darling last night, didn’t really care much for it.

Similar to another movie from last year that this site absolutely hated, I think the dots are there if you want to connect them re: problematic messaging, but my personal view is that it’s just another movie that put style and performances head and shoulders above any substance. And that’s fine - not all movies need, or are trying, to “say” something. The difference is at least that other movie gave us a lot of humor and memorable (wish-you-could-forgettable) moments, where this one failed to do anything significant at all beyond its non-chronological storytelling device. It couldn’t even make the twist that it telegraphs from the very beginning any more interesting. We already assume she’s the killer, so we’re left to ask “okay then why is he chasing her”, and this movie’s best reveal is “because he’s a police officer and he wants to arrest her” - come on, we couldn’t punch that up at all?

That all said I think it does the style part very well. It was very pretty to watch. Fitzgerald was great and Gallner was Gallner. You can never go wrong with Ed Begley Jr. (okay - “I’m a motorcycle guy” did make me laugh) It wasn’t bad, just kind of boring.

Wild the differing opinions on strange darling

also I usually pick up on stuff early but it took me way too long to realize she was the serial killer so maybe that helped me enjoy it more?

    100% agree

  18. I'd like to catch that Sunday night, but the only showing at our theater is 9:50pm. Which wouldn't be a huge issue if I had a car right now.

  19. I imagine it would. For me, the non-chronological storytelling that starts with two chapters late into the story which are clearly trying to paint Gallner as the murderer are an immediate red flag that it’s the other person

yeah looking back it’s so obvious, I think I just wasn’t looking for a twist but when it did hit me I was like oh duh haha

  21. The way the opening credits really want to drill in from that start that our character names are The Lady and The Demon, while withholding the fact that the serial killer’s name is The Electric Lady until we’re like 80% into the movie, really felt like a “the doctor is his mother! tada!” moment

the one part that did make me roll my eyes was the “this film was entirely shot on 35 mm”
