Which remasters do you think were a major improvement over the original releases?

the first answer that came to my mind too. would love this on vinyl (but not the mega-expensive box set).

I assume based on your username you're going to say History Books.

This is the only one I've heard that sounds dramatically improved but still true to the original recording.

Never a huge fan of '90s metal production, but this remaster did wonders.

Not an album that immediately comes to mind but the song "Valerie" by Steve Winwood that was remixed for the greatest hits and became a hit is a big one

After I heard the remix/remastered version of this album.. I never wanted to hear the original version ever again, this is for me the definitive version

    It's all hell.

Just listened to History Books for the first time in months after being lukewarm on it after the release, and what the fuck this remaster sounds so good.

This is a very good idea for a thread. I didn't know there's so many improved remasters.

Some of them are also remixed, like Tim and History Books!

  16. Can we bring in re-recordings? Thrice's Artist in the Ambulance re-recording completely changed my interest in that album, I love it. It acually partially inspired me and my old band from high school to rerecord our old demos at a proper studio, just to do them justice with our accumulated experience since then.

original tracks are in disc 3 - the remaster redefined the legacy of this roots-reggae album, beautiful atmosphere and yearning vocals throughout

3hrs of ambient bliss remastered to perfection

this year's remaster of the '89 Durutti Column cult-classic. for fans of experimental avant-post-punk vibes, dreamy shredding of jazz-guitar, samples of Otis Redding... a true vibe.

History Books for sure. The Terry Date mix of Pantera’s Reinventing the Steel.

rad thread idea. these two punk albums come to mind. i think i could've lived with the original mix of Resignation Day since such an abrasive recording isn't out of the ordinary for the genre, but the remix/remastering did wonders.

Samiam have a glorious catalog but the original mix of Whatever's Got You Down made for an unenjoyable experience. the remix/remaster here gave me a newfound appreciation for the album.

Here’s another major one. For those who haven’t heard it absolutely need to. It’s an all-timer. RIYL early Grimes, Grouper, absolutely heavenly neo-soul/r&b vibes awash in ambience and distortion

Oh oh I thought of one.

The mix of "I Know I'm Not Wrong" from Tusk on the first CD release AND the deluxe remastered CD release is different from the original album and 10,000x better. One of my favorite songs of all time and makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

For the HD restoration that's on Spotify now they returned it to the original album version and...it has zero magic for me. It's just there.

Terry Date’s remix really brought RTS to life for me. One of my favorite metal albums now.
