This was the first album of theirs I ever listened to and 10/10 for a first experience. Now I’m going back and checking all their other stuff and I’m stunned I didn’t get into them sooner. Great stuff!

Checking them out for the first time… Mercurial World is a really cool listen! Great lyrics and songwriting, feels very ethereal. Excited to check Imaginal Disk.

Got my vinyl. This band has gotten really good at knowing when to kick the bass up for contrast.

I love the end of Vampire in the Corner where everything opens up. One of my favorite bits of the album

Over the years I've checked out a few songs from this band, and even from this new album, and didn't quite "get it"... then I heard "Death & Romance" another time, and am now listening to the album.... I get it now

I know many won’t agree but just gonna say this under presumption I’m in a safe space: moments of this album (lookin at you “vampire in the corner”) remind me of a hypothetical present where Charly bliss is still good.

The band is like the exact center point between CRJ and Pink Floyd. I cannot further elaborate.

They were a prog duo under another moniker before Magdalena Bay so it makes sense. The stuff out they put out was actually interesting, albeit not my thing after all.

edit: Looks like there was a third member

I've been diving in headfirst and have listened to the day & night pop EPs, first mini mix and the singles from that time period so far. They are so good, wild that they have been off my radar.

a little rhythm and a wicked feeling is still one of the best pop records I've ever heard period

I saw them last night and I’ve gotta say - i have caught over 50 acts this year (between touring acts, festivals, and local bands), and that was probably a top two show I’ve seen, maybe the best of 2024 so far. The opening act was this sick Mexican futuristic religious-imagery synthpop duo called Valgur, who completely floored me. Then Mag Bay was just so good - amazing production, band and set was super tight, and Mica and Matt have such incredible energy. Merch was also great. 10/10 if you’re in this thread and they’re coming near you, gotta check that out. Played almost the whole new album and a good amount of old stuff.
