It'll be some combination of "I will always support Israel's right to defend itself" sprinkled with Trump saying he'll deport anyone supporting Palestine.

I haven’t seen even one yet. And my town is named on that map there.

 

Somehow, it only recently occurred to me that my musician/hippie/nomad brother lived in Israel for about half a year, maybe 10 years ago. I remember he shared some pretty jacked up stories but at the time I didn’t really have the context I do now to know what to make of them other than “that’s crazy/what the F?” Anyway, I finally asked him more deeply about his experience there, living with artists and hippies and activists both Isreali and Palestinian, and he sent me a 15 minute long voice note.

The two thing that stuck with me most, not because they’re novel but because they resonate with what I think a lot of people are starting to reckon with, is 1) that he described the way Palestinians were treated and limited as not covert at all and only normalized through intense propaganda and 2) that, to him, it seemed that the Isreal government is essentially an outpost of the Western world’s military might and not a completely separate allied entity.

And the perspective shift/clarification I get from that changes how I view the idea of calling for a US president to force a cease fire or end to the genocide. The US wouldn’t be asking someone else to stop. They’d be asking themselves to stop or weaken their own selves, to simplify things through that lens. And that really explains their response and how good vibes posi presidential candidates won’t ever touch this in a meaningful, honest, accountable way. Anyway, I feel more hopeless and dumb! But wanted to share my dumbness and ignorance and lack of hope!

 

I know right? Oasis is only going to break up again, we all know this. It's giving people hope where none exists.
