Butch Walker talked with Rolling Stone about the anniversary of Letters and how he’s done with solo albums:

“I don’t want to be that cliché of an aging artist that puts out new shit that nobody cares about,” Walker tells Rolling Stone. “And when you write so many records doing a certain thing, you start to worry about recycling and repeating yourself. I would rather celebrate a record that has an anniversary — and I have a lot of them. By the time I get through that cycle, I’m going to be like 900 years old.” […]

So, if Walker is serious about calling his solo career quits, would that make 2022’s Butch Walker as…Glenn, his excellent piano-man LP in the vein of Elton John and Billy Joel, his final album?

Glenn was the swan song,” he confirms. “And I thought that when I did it. I just really needed to process it over a year or two and see if my theory held up.”

Interesting. He just put out a new solo song. Just not going to be a full album I guess

Marvelous 3 have been a great output for him

Personally I like Marvelous 3 more than his solo stuff and I like that he is releasing new music with Marvelous 3. The song that just came out is fantastic.

Great songwriter and producer. But he stinks as a solo artist, in my opinion

    Aaaachem!

I love this trajectory for artists. Like when GuK got back together and Matt Pryor was like “I wanted to write a rock song and was like I guess I should just do it with the band”

    England.

I have never been able to get into him, despite many on here with similar tastes, the boss included, being huge fans.

Pretty sure Michael Guy Chislett exclusively does worship music now.

Yeah - that was always his world other than his quick stint with The Academy Is... and 1969. Bummer.

One of the best entertainers I've ever seen. Hopefully whatever he does next keeps him stage rocking out for good long while.

A post from Reddit: "He addressed this at the Letters show tonight in LA. Basically - he’s so proud of the albums he’s made, theyre all gonna have their 20 year anniversary sooner or later, he’s not making any more solo records “under [his] name”. What that means? Idk. Very hard to imagine him hanging up the guitar and not writing and releasing new music; it’s not like his old music is popular enough to coast on as a nostalgia act? And the fanbase is pretty invested in his new music. Hoping this just means he’s putting out new music under a band, though the new M3 stuff seems to have underperformed; maybe throwing the Black Widows back together? Who knows."

So, maybe he'll pull a Sturgill here and adopt a moniker, or get a new band together. I doubt he's done making albums. The funny thing is, Glenn is basically an alter ego album as is!
