Reminded yet again that I really need to watch Last Temptation of Christ already, lol.

Not a movie, but Anthony Oliveira’s book Dayspring rules. It’s a poetic retelling of Jesus ministry as a gay romance between Him and “the disciple who Jesus loved,” interspersed with various detours throughout time, including Oliveira’s own life. (The main narrative is essentially an amalgam of Oliveira, the disciple Jesus loved, and other various influences.)

It’s maybe not exactly what you’re talking about & looking for, lol, at least directly. But it is a very compelling and thoughtful work, imo, based in the writer’s gay Catholic background.

I think of that movie every single time I have a mushroom pizza.

    A Hidden Life. Abso-fucking-lutely A Hidden Life.

And it wasn't my favorite watch but I thought it actually had a lot to say about faith: Kinds of Kindness

Edit: Also, it's older but The Mission is a masterpiece, imo. And Godspell is a bit of a niche overlap of interests but it's a favorite and I think gets at the radical nature of the advice in the gospels in a way that modern Christians sure seem to totally miss.

I love Interstellar. But yea, it’s polarizing for sure. If you buy in to the whole love thing, I think you really enjoy it. It you don’t, yes, you’re going to have major issues in the third act.

My biggest gripe was that I watched it in theaters. Think it would’ve been a way better experience on the side of @Michael Belt’s campus ministry house

in my defense, I had gotten very little sleep since it was orientation week for new students, so i was sleep deprived and probably forgot a good chunk of it

Seeing such an accomplished film maker say a children's cartoon is one of the best movies he's ever seen just warms my heart

But yeah I've never had any desire to watch Toy Story 4. I don't think I ever will watch it.

Can we all talk about that old meme where some kids show their mom a fan copy of Toy Story 3 where it just ends on a somber note as they hold hands in the incinerator and close their eyes?
