Exactly 100%. The GOP has always talked about strength, democracy, freedom, military and Kamala hit on all those last night. So now she can't be attacked or called weak by being anti those things. I wasn't a fan of the word lethal but her using that term to describe the military seemed extremely targeted to get the attention of a certain crowd. If some people don't like the patriotism? There's a huge amount of people that WILL. She's going for country over party. Country over Trumpism. And to the general public meeting her for the first time this was the message they needed to hear. There were 20+ million people watching last night. There's plenty of republicans who hate Trump but just needed a reason to vote for Kamala, who at first didn't want to because EVIL LIB DEMOCRAT and well after last night I'm sure they found reasons to vote for her.

 

Yeah the triumph of the Democrats in the Trump era is using him as a boogeyman to take people’s justifiable fears and turn them into votes for thin air. The party is a void. They once had to actually campaign.

I would not have voted for Genocide Joe. But I was open to voting for Kamala, especially after the Tim Walz selection.

But that speech last night sealed the deal for me. She doesn’t want my vote. She doesn’t feel she needs my vote. So she won’t be getting my vote.

 

I've never said anything coming close to that and if you believe I have, I don't know what to tell you

 

If dems are going to try to get conservative and centrist votes instead of trying to get left leaning or progressive votes and they lose let’s blame the conservatives and centrists for not voting enough please. You can’t adopt that strategy and then blame the left for not showing up enough. Didn’t work out in 2016.
Even though I think he won because of anti-Trump votes mostly I remember Biden running much more on progressive talking points than Harris so far. She better hope the anti-Trump vote is still there as much as it was 4 years ago.

 

Republican attacks on democrats have never been legitimate or honest or made in good faith. They absolutely can and will call her weak on all of those, people will repeat those attacks, and people will believe them. They called their own heritage foundation healthcare plan Stalinist. They do not care

 

I have disagreed with a lot of what you've posted lately, but this is the one that is #1 on my list. In the last 7 years of the MAGA movement, the #1 learning has been facts, evidence, quotes, data, reality do not matter whatsoever. "She can't be called weak" literally trump is out there telling half the country she is the weakest human being in the world and that will be the narrative. The Democratic Party is still playing the same-old-1990s-political-environment game as if the country hasn't changed or the pool of "undecided" is significantly smaller and more apathetic than ever before.

 

When Dems pivot to centering military might, they win. It’s why John Kerry was swept to victory on the basis of his military service. You can’t argue with results. Republicans just can’t beat it.

 

While they CAN, I feel that they won't be as effective if she hadn't gone wrong on her message. Say nothing and they'll call you weak. Say something and they still attack, well like I said last night was about getting to the people who DIDN'T know her, the undecideds who watch Fox News but happened to tune in anyways and they'd be like "wait I didn't know this about her". Yeah those loyal viewers, the MAGAs won't budge even if they see what she says but there was zero chance of converting them in the first place. The people with one foot already out the door, that's who she was talking to and who I don't think would fall for attacks having seen her speak.

Yeah there was a sort of weird dynamic with Biden where he came off more moderate in the primary and then adopted more progressive language and stances in the general on some things. Not all things but I still remember being shocked at some of the stuff Biden was saying and campaigning on that fall. Wasn't expecting it at all.

The one thing I'll say here is technically this campaign is still only a month old and has only put out a few policies in that time, and from some reports it sounds like the Biden campaign didn't really leave them much to work with other than cash. And we still have 2.5 months until the actual election. So so far all we have to go off of are the speeches. I would love to see a "talk more moderate than your policies proposed are" tactic but until we get anything, there's not much to go off of or much benefit of the doubt there. There's been some good dialogue on housing and childcare, and the taxes on passive income, but it has seemed very informal/unofficial

 

Obama ran on getting us out of the Middle East, and he was destroyed by veteran John McCain.

And Trump calling her weak was in line with everyone saying WhAtS hEr PoLiCy and WhY wOnT sHe Do InTeRvIeWs crowd. She hadn't given a speech like last night to cater to people other than democrats yet.

But hey, I'm sure you were one of those people who weren't gonna vote for her no matter what like many others in this thread cuz of single issues so it really doesn't matter because nothing last night was meant to move you.

Again. Kamala does not want, and honestly very possibly does not need, votes from someone like Dylan. I’m willing to bet, though, that there’s a very simple way to win Dylan’s vote—commit to an arms embargo!
