I've read through The Exile (one of the best novellas I've read) and it's a really good series. Just haven't been ready for a massive chonker in a bit so looking forward to getting to Of War and Ruin.

 

I took a quick break from big fantasy series because my wife really wanted me to read Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. it was really good, but it only took me one day to finish. I think I'm gonna dive into Age of Ash by Daniel Abraham next, although I had been trying to stick to series that are already completed unless something is brand new by an author that I absolutely love.

I didn't think I had read anything by Abraham before, although as I am playing around on my phone right now I just figured out that he is one half of the writing duo behind The Expanse books

 

Just casually had dinner with some amazing authors yesterday. Scott Lynch, Joe Abercrombie, Gourav Mohanty, Andrea Stewart, Ben Galley, Shauna Lawless. Then met with LibraryofaViking and Petrik Leo. Jeff Brown, the artist, was there and we chatted art. We stayed out until 3am, brilliant, brilliant people.

Philip Quaintrell, Michael Miller, Ryan Cahill. Loved meeting them. Especially Ryan since we all know my thoughts on the series!

WorldCon was a success!!

I’m a little bit of a Sanderson sceptic but I think the Mistborn Trilogy is definitely worth finishing, I loved it

Universal, Fuzzy Door Team For 'Dungeon Crawler Carl' Series

 

oh hell yeah. Started book 5 yesterday and just really impressed with the series. It won't get me to read other litRPG but it's super good and carried very well by the incredible audio performance of Jeff Hays. I'm curious if they will go live action or animated. Always kind of felt with the scenarios that happen and the high level of violence that it would work a lot better animated, but we will see.

 

Man that’s a tough adaptation if they go live action but im here for it

I honestly want to re-read Dungeon Crawler Carl more than anything. And I need to re-read at least Rhythm of War, but should probably do them all because why not.

 

a bunch of standalones i have on my self may get touched but i usually keep my vague planning to whatever big series i want to tackle so my pretty basic last third of year list:

sando rereads (priority because of WaT of course) with the side course of continuing to poke at suneater, think i'm going to grab the new hc edition of DCC next week and start that too soon

eternal TBR series that i own basically all of and will maybe get to if i catch up on any of the above: elderlings, osten ard (both of which i'm approximately 99.9% will be favorites of mine...one day i'll start one or both hah)

 

I started Age of Ash by Daniel Abraham, and I was honestly having trouble getting into it, and found myself not wanting to pick it up and read, but I think it had more to do with having a very crappy few days at work and not being in a good headspace. I had two days off and I've been devouring the book and really loving it. I think it's a cool concept of setting the entire story (so far) in one city. I've got the second book coming to my library already.

• Aside from these, I own a copy of The Darkness That Comes Before by R. Scott Bakker and I want to read this trilogy and have for years but have been unable to keep everything straight in my head. Maybe after I retire someday. I own all of Tad William's Osten Ard books and I love the world, but I gave up on Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn partway through the third book and never picked it back up. I want to give those books a try again because that is an incredible world and I really enjoyed his writing immensely, until all of a sudden I didn't. I have also wanted to read Brandon Sanderson but I was not able to get into Mistborn and started it and stopped two or three times. I am thinking of grabbing The Way of Kings at some point to try him again. Also, I had taken out a copy of The Faded Sun trilogy by C.J. Cherryh after being intrigued after reading something trashing it as a Dune ripoff that actually made it sound pretty interesting, but I couldn't get into it and returned it to the library without making it very far. A little while later I grabbed a used paperback copy for a few dollars and I always think about giving it another chance.

 

Added my thoughts to some i've read already! For this year, i'll be reading Red Rising then i'm beta reading Of Empires and Dust by Ryan Cahill then it's Wind & Truth and The Fury of the Gods!

 

Will of the Many and Bakker would be my recs from that list. Definitely finish MS&T sometime, it's a fantastic trilogy. Planning on starting sequel series soon with the final book coming soon.

I appreciate your thoughts dude! Godsblood is amazing so far, I just need to finish up a couple other things before I can sink my teeth into it. Palmer I'm feeling the same way as you described so far, but the more I read the more it's clicking, so that's good. God Eater I saw your GR ratings and I'm curious how I'll feel about them - I love the intent, but we'll see about the execution. As for An Exile of Water & Gold, that's on my TBR as well, I liked the novella but was honestly kind of confused by it in places - you liked the novel though? I might bump it up in the queue depending on what you liked about it.

 

Godsblood is immense and I loved it. I feel like Palmer has great ideas, and a wonderful person, but needs to tighten it to match some other levels of indie fantasy out.

The novel was really good. It’s cohesive and intriguing and I liked that.

 

yeah, I'm going through everyone's posts and adding onto my TBR list also. The Godsblood Tragedy looks extremely intriguing, and might jump a few others on my list.

I've honestly sorta been putting Will of the Many off despite having loved The Licanius Trilogy, so I think I might have to give it a chance after I finish Blade of Dream

 

Can we talk about Malazan? What a series. Anyone read any of the other side / spinoff series? Wondering what to dive into next.
