Ordered the Red Rocket version. Not paying for a copy of an album I already have. Kudos to them for doing two separate editions.

 

Was able to nab Enter Shikari's first album today when I got a notification email from discogs someone listed it well below the $100~ everyone sells for.

Glad that wasn't another Park situation of it already selling out before I got the notification....

 

Wondering if anyone can help me out here. About 4 months ago I noticed my records were sounding funny. Like they were randomly slowing down at points. I have a u-turn orbit, and it’s about 5 years old. So I replaced both the belt and the stylus last month, but the problem has just gotten worse.

Is this a common issue with orbits? Could something be wrong with the motor?

 

The Orbit does have some wow and flutter but the motor itself is pretty sturdy and shouldn’t suddenly have a noticeable change.

You can check the motor speed using a stroboscope like this Free TurnTable Stroboscope Disc and Tracking Error Gauge

Whether that does or doesn’t show an issue UTurns customer service is top notch. You can send them a video of the sound issue you are experiencing and they will give recommendations or ask for follow up info. I had to send my first generation Orbit in to them to repair the power supply when I dropped the table during a move. They repaired that and replaced the tonearm for free for an unrelated issue I mentioned (I f’ed up the grounding wire when changing the cartridge which then made a light humming noise).

 

Thanks for the tips! When I go into the office later this week I'll print out that stroboscope to test out the motor speed.
For now what I did was throw the belt in the freezer for 3 hours, removed and reattached the spindle, and cleaned the platter. Knock on wood I'm 6 tracks in on an album and it has been playing fine.

Maybe the belt was/is just too loose? Even after 3 hours in the freezer it was still a pain in the ass getting it to stay on.

 

don't have an Orbit, but i have heard some people say that wow & flutter can also be affected by faulty power supplies and damaged components like resistors & capacitors.

 

Urghhhhh I spoke too soon. 30 minutes of play things were sounding fine and then the record suddenly slowed down drastically. I was listening to Blink 182 and Tom's voice went from whiney to demonic in an instant lol.

I took a quick video of it, so lets see if I send it to customer support they'll know what to do.
