I saw Immaculate first and loved it but then The First Omen just took it to another level.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

yeah First Omen is still the best horror movie I've seen this year and it's not particularly close

  3. I Saw the TV Glow imo, I don't think The First Omen cracks my top 10 horror movies so far this year but I did enjoy it and find it quite good

I am very excited to see TV Glow if they ever decide to make it legally possible to in my part of the world!

  5. Running some quick stats on what I've watched in 2024: out of 25 new releases, 18 are horror, and Longlegs, The First Omen, and Abigail aren't currently in the top 10 of those 18

favourite horrors of the year so far are First Omen, Longlegs and Abigail. Trap was also great but more of a thriller I think and Maxxxine was fun but not something I see having any replay value. was pretty disappointed with Late Night and Immaculate unfortunately, they wouldn't come near the top of my list.

catching Alien Romulus tomorrow night too, I'm pretty excited for that one

  9. My list is missing Late Night and Stopmotion because Letterboxd has them listed as 2023. Mildly annoying. Late Night would be in my top 10 so far and Stopmotion might actually round out my top five

We should just declare limited or wide release dates as a thread rule. Lol

Why must we base our release dates off something that could be as little as a single screening at a festival to 250 people? It’s madness!

Stop motion was fun. Going to watch Immaculate tonight and then I guess First Omen finally, despite my disdain of religious horror.

Oddity and Arcadian are decent ones from this year too.

Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person might be my favorite of the year.

Can't wait to see Oddity when it hits digital tomorrow (i think?)

  14. Why did Stopmotion work so well for y'all? I'm usually a huge fan of slowburners, but underwhelmed me despite my wanting to like it so much.

Haven't solidified anything yet but I've got In A Violent Nature, Late Night with the Devil, Longlegs, The First Omen, Stopmotion, MaXXXine, Abigail, Immaculate, Sting, Lisa Frankenstein, Arcadian, and now Alien Romulus in the mix for my favorite horrors so far this year. Still haven't seen so many things though - especially stuff a little less mainstream or off the radar

The stopmotion was really cool, the themes and ideas were interesting, the few kills it had were sick. Just an all around great movie imo.

  19. It reminded me a lot of Censor, kind of a psychological horror where you're trying to discern what's real but instead of the film set stuff happening in Censor, it's disgusting Stopmotion flesh stuff. Just very interesting and unpredictable imo

Stop motion wasn’t amazing, but the titular stop motion parts took it up a notch for me.

I also am just a fan of a mid level Shudder original type horror movie. Not my favorite of the year but I had fun.

Watched Immaculate this morning, it was fun especially towards the end but I wish it got even crazier.
