The crowd at Pier 17 tonight was not the typical rowdy one you see for TBS when headlining in the NYC/NJ area. It was actually a fairly obnoxious and distracting crowd full of people talking and taking photos of themselves in the area I was in.

Adam and John did not sound remotely strong out of the gate too, and it felt like it took half the show for the band's energy to really hit and for each of their voices to come alive. But at least we got "Your Own Disaster".

I go to the holiday shows at Starland every year, and last night’s crowd near me was so wildly different from those crowds and what I’m used to that it completely caught me off guard. It was very obvious a majority of the people surrounding me only wanted to hear them play older songs (a lot of yelling at the band from the crowd), and they were NOT happy when they didn’t play those songs. Like, sure it would be fun to hear Ballad of Sal again at some point, but I wouldn’t be yelling it at them to attempt on the fly with a fill-in drummer and then getting angry when they didn’t play it? Weirdo behavior.

I’m pretty sure that was my first time at Pier 17, and apart from the novelty of being on a roof and the city backdrop (mostly obscured by the stage and their set up), I was not a fan.

My friend sent me some live videos from a recent show and it was so sad how bad they sounded. I've seen this band close to 20 times. I've seen Bayside the most, which is funny because I wouldn't consider either of those two bands in my top 10 of all time.

That is also just so sad. Pier 17 sounds pretty sick though. Sucks that they got what is essentially an influencer crowd.

Night 2 at Pier 17 was cancelled tonight due to thunderstorms. Rescheduled for Tuesday.

I already sold my tickets on stubhub, but confused now if the buyer keeps my tickets or if I have to re list now.

Exactly. The differences between the Starland holiday shows, along with really any small indoor venue in the city like Bowery Ballroom, Irving Plaza, Webster Hall, etc. was so extreme. The section I was in did cheer a lot for John, which was nice to see, but overall it was just low energy.

This was my second show at Pier 17 after Yellowcard last summer, and that crowd was significantly better. I’m chalking it up to that one being a reunion tour. Otherwise, this venue just seems like a higher end novelty.

It is a very nice, unique venue with a lot to do around it. Just have your expectations in check if you are ever to go and choose the artist to see there accordingly.

Night 2 at pier 17 seemed better than the first. They the variations in the setlist:
Put You Know How I Do in for Timberwolves, the Stranger for Quit Trying, Your Own Disaster, they added 180 by Summer without removing anything as far as I can tell, and after Cute, the crowd started chanting for Timberwolves, so they squished that in there too.

    this is all there is

I love Fred and will probably go to one of those shows (late), but what are those openers?

I liked the Goodnight Moon as much as anybody else in 2005, but it's wild to me that ROTY is still an active band. They've been around for 20 years and have barely 3k Spotify listeners and less than 4k instagram followers. I'm not saying that like it's some indictment on the quality of a band, but so many bands with waaaaaay bigger followings have had to hang it up because of expenses, etc.

If anything, I would have expected him to bring out the bands on his label.

He started a label last year called Heading East. I'm only familiar with one band on it, Mighty Tortuga, and they're pretty awesome:

So today I watched my best friend of 31 years lose his life completely unexpectedly before my eyes. He was a huge TBS fan and we just caught them for his 19th time last weekend in NYC.

This coming January would have been 20 years since our first ever TBS show at Starland Ballroom, and this December would have been TBS show #20 for him (again at Starland) for the 10th Annual Holiday Spectacular.

If anyone has an in with anyone in their camp to maybe do a dedication or something involved with their pop-up charities for a good cause in his name, it’d be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and sorry for getting so real and personal on here. I’m just numb at the moment and trying to do something to honor him with some of the things he loved most in the world, which is music, TBS shows, and particularly the Holiday Spectacular at Starland.
