I wish people could just go watch a movie to have a good time or not and not to spend hours on the internet after meticulously dissecting every facet proving that they were never gonna enjoy the movie because they were too busy analyzing the ever living shit out of it instead of letting suspension of disbelief do it's job.

it was annoying with The Last Jedi and I can tell it's going to be FUCKING ANNOYING with this movie.

This btw. is not about anyone here but other places.

I enjoyed this a lot. Solid build up and pay off. The jump scare at the very end got me real good.

Its intertesting to compare to the first 2 as Alien and Aliens are so streamlined and they dont fuss much about character back story, motives etc, its just 'here's some spectacle'. Obviously the novelty has worn off a bit and there needed to be a bit more meat on the bone for the characters.

Overall, a good time was had and worthy of the franchise.

This was fine. It is very clear that they took dutiful notes on what people liked about the previous six films. It gets some credit for trying to pull from so many movies, whereas a lot of other legacy sequels either ignore the lesser entries or erase them from their own canon altogether.

The CGI Ash looks awful and is disrespectful to Holm, but it doesn't even make sense within the context of the stories. By this point in the Alien series we have had Ash, Bishop, Call, David, David 2, and now Andy, so it isn't as if they were all part of one mass-produced style. The characters in the first movie didn't even know Ash was a robot in the first place. You are banking on nostalgia but you are talking about an almost 50 year old movie at this point and a lot of your audience either did not see or it or do not remember it that well. It probably would have been more effective and weird if it was another Andy.

it is my least favorite part of the movie due to how bad it looks and the morality of using a dead person’s face who cannot consent to it but from a storytelling perspective i don’t think it’s as far fetched as you’re making it seem

Yea that confused / bothered me a little too. In Alien they didnt know he was an android yet in this one, he's stock android for science guy? So was he the first in Alien or they just didnt know that that's what science guy androids looked like? Its nit picking sure, but yea, didnt like the decision and was probably the biggest mistep.

I personally had 0 issue with Rook; movie as a whole was a blast. 1st act was great in setting up the characters, cool seeing the connection to the Alien film, and the action sequences were fire. It delivered everything I wanted. Fun film.

Depending on the film, the robots are sometimes known and sometimes secret. In 1 and 4 the reveal is supposed to be a surprise. Maybe they just made a few and figured in a galaxy-wide company no one would figure it out, but that is a tremendous stretch for a company so evil that it is either indenturing colonists or using them as food to get a bioweapon. A scarier proposition is that they have hundreds of models of android and the only time people notice is when they are injured or malfunctioning. We all know the real reason they used Ash: they wanted you to sit up in your seat and do the DiCaprio sitting up pointing at the TV in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. That is why Andy used the stay away line even though a robot would have no reason to do a sick burn with profanity after the thing is dead (they even had a line earlier about humans getting distracted by their emotions!).

while i'm not a fan of his inclusion, it's at least good his family gave Fede their blessing.

Of course they gave their blessing; they know a check from Disney is going to clear. It costs more to use him and then get sued.

Three is actually not as terrible as I remembered it. Def underwhelming but I love this Ripley.

3 is a mess but the atmosphere is memorable. Great sets, costumes, fog machine artistry etc

I got through the OG 3 - gonna do Prometheus and Covenant tomorrow. Everyone seems to rank Covenant higher than Prometheus and I’m intrigued because when I saw it in theaters I didn’t really love Covenant but I think I based my opinion on it more as a sequel to P and less just an entry in the Alien franchise in general.

This is precisely what happened to me re: Covenant v Prometheus. Initially really disappointed with Covenant but upon a full rewatch earlier this year I really came around on it and appreciated it a ton more.

    hate my favorite band

I just got home and I loved this. It was never going to top two masterpiece movies, so getting a good ass Alien movie is all I needed to be happy.

But these were definitely my issues with it as well. I most likely won’t care on rewatch, but the face took me out of it every time. I don’t know who at these studios are seeing that and thinking it’s good enough. The rehashed line near the end was painful though.
