I'm not mad that I got shut down. I'm upset that I can't have a reasonable discussion about something without implying that I'm silencing Kaep from speaking out. I've been a supporter of Kaep since the beginning of his protest, but I don't think it's unreasonable for a reporter to call into question his commitment to making a difference if he won't look into ballot initiatives in his home state. That was my basic point.

25% of all death row inmates nationwide are in California. There are two separate ballot initiatives in Calfornia which are being voted on right now, one of which could outlaw capital punishment and another which would accelerate the appeals process and expedite appeals of cases. Some have (rightfully, I believe) estimated this will disproportionately affect Black and Hispanic inmates. Every vote in these is critical, since the ballot measure with the greater votes of the two is the one that will take affect.

I'm not trying to be patronizing when I say that voting in California, even if you're not voting on the first line because you don't agree with either major party candidate, is especially important in this election. And so yeah, I'm a little disappointed that someone of his stature and with his platform appears apathetic. Do I think that calls into question his entire protest? Absoutely fucking not. But I can understand a journalists frustration is all I was trying to say from the beginning.

I was being facetious with my initial post (with the claps) and it got taken and run with so, is what it is now. EDIT: Just saw Dom's post now on this and had to edit to say I didn't realize it was a culturally objectifying form of speech or anything of that sort, I've just seen it mostly on tumblr to be honest with you. So I'm sorry about that, and now that I realize what it's about after looking into it I'll refrain from using it in the future.

Now I'm actually back to hibernation for a bit.
