If it comes on I’ll listen still, it occupied a lot of my listening for like 15 years

Yeah I guess I still would listen if it came up, but I haven't purposely put on Yeezus for a very long time and I used to listen alllll the time years ago

Yea TLOP and before if it comes up on shuffle I generally listen. But I'm never in a mood to actively throw on Kanye anymore.

Went to the Tennessee State Fair today and at 11am they were blasting all of the lights.

Not that I throw his albums on, but I don’t skip the songs when they come on random. The Kanye up to and including MBDTF is so wildly different from the Kanye that followed that you can almost separate the two. But obviously it’s totally understandable if you can’t.

College Dropout to 808s is base Kanye, great hip hop, seemingly good head on his shoulders

808 to Pablo is experimental Kanye, still a great artist but definitely something going on

Ye to KSG is problematic Kanye and some redeemable music, but clearly past his prime

Donda to Vultures 2 is unredeemable human and disastrous music

Pretty spot-on. My one quibble with this is I still believe Kids See Ghosts is one of his best late-career releases… obviously he was already very problematic by that point, but I can’t deny that whole project rules. Kid Cudi had a huge part in why it was so strong though.

Yeah I hear ya, I never really felt that but I know a lot of people do. I think a lot of it was older material repurposed too, right?

But which bucket does Jesus Is King fall in? Or does it get its own bucket of "problematic Kanye and disastrous music". I can't recall just how far gone he was at that point. I know it was the last album where I still listened to him so maybe he was right on the edge of problematic vs unredeemable human upon its release?

And yes, I agree with others that Kids See Ghosts was his last strong release after Ye largely shit the bed. But I credit Cudi way more for that one just like how I credit Kanye more than Jay for Watch the Throne.

I think JIK is just as bad, with as many moments of good, as Ye and KSG are, just with the added layer of being fake religious too

For me, lyrically, MDBTF feels like the last time he was self reflective and lucid. Yeezus, his lyrics were getting darker and the chip on his shoulder was growing.

Pablo’s truly the breaking point because that’s when he started with the Taylor Swift and him having sex and making her famous, along with the music video. Everything else is a downhill slide, minus KSG. Just completely enabled, surrounded by yes men and viewing anything that challenges him as an antagonist.

This is absolutely spot on but I personally liked Donda so I would push that back to the previous tier and start the last one with Vultures

Donda has a 10 or so track album that could easily stand up to say, Pablo, in it. The issue is the other 20 or so tracks, and also everything about Kanye at the time

Donda had a chance to be a true comeback masterpiece. I feel like if he did a 10 song album and not the Marilyn Manson/dababy/whatever else happened that I can’t remember because there is too much, he might have won back a lot of favor with people
