I'm sure it will be stupid, perhaps even bad, but I am still going to get it

That Boys Like Girls cover will probably be pretty good. I could see Martin crushing that.

How many times do you guys listen to a new vinyl before it hits the shelf and collects dust to eventually maybe get spun once or twice a year after? Like does a single $30 LP only get spun 5 times before shelved? I have a rule where I need to listen to an album atleast a dozen times before I can shelf it to justify the price. Am I just weird? I bought 4 records 2 weeks ago and those are all ive listened to and wont shelf them until Monday. Then I open 2 new records I bought.

Most of my records are sitting at like 5 plays tops honestly

My rule of thumb is that if I don't know more than half the songs on that album, then I don't need it. After that, I do a yearly catalog going through my collection to see what I've missed/what I no long have in my collection and update my discogs. During that, I set aside ones that are not getting played and then decide if I sell them or not.

I wish I had more discipline with rules of vinyl play time. As I've accelerated my record spending it's become harder to make time for everything. However, and at least for me, I love the collecting and completing portion of this hobby which makes me care a bit less about how many times I spin.

My rule of thumb is to only buy records that I know I love (or a new release by a band that I have enjoyed for years.) I more so buy albums that have been out for yearssss rather than new releases. If I buy a new release, its by a band that I've supported for a long time and enjoy their catalog.

  10. I have my CD/cassette player on my work desk now, so it's been fun going through all my tapes and CDs and listening to stuff. If I had my record player in here, I'd be dusting off a bunch of those too...

I work from home and have my stereo behind me with CD/Streamer/Vinyl. I typically stick to my records, but own over 800 cds too. Just dont really dig them out.

I used to have my record player in the same room as my work desk but had to move my desk into another room. I for sure played more records with the previous setup. haha.

  13. turns out they're way more convenience than records haha. no flipping! but it also makes albums feel a lot longer no having that little bit of an intermission while you're getting up to flip a record over haha. i've been going through all my CDs that aren't on streaming, so that's been fun.

I have to play it once before it goes in my shelf.

I have about 1,000 so I’m doing a big strategic listen right now based on Spotify liked songs. I never used the liked songs function until recently so I’m listening to albums that have 0-3 liked songs first and then deciding either:

    1) I like more songs on this record so I’ll keep it
    2) I like songs on this but not to the level that I need it on vinyl or
    3) I don’t like enough songs to justify keeping it

John // OC now, OH forever.

I have so so so many I bought for nostalgia's sake that I've never really spun because there's an Echo sitting next to my turntable.

I've been buying these records for Halloween, lots of fun songs I'd never heard before from the 60's/70's

is it the same for you? Prestigious

I play basically everything I buy at least 2-3 times right away before it goes on the shelf, and then sometimes keep newer releases I like a lot out longer and rotate them in. I try to pull a good mix of things off the shelf to post on my vinyl Instagram or just to listen to because I'm in the mood for something specific. I work from home ~85% of the the time and usually listen to at least a few records during the day (and then also in the evening), so the 12" collection is pretty functional. I mostly only listen to my 10" and 7" records when I buy them and then when I make posts in the summer about the ones I bought in the previous year.

The Chappell Roan Blood Records drop was insane. 12K copies gone in 15 minutes!! The
Reddit vinyl thread is absolutely devastated right now.

Pretty variant I may add. However I got the UO variant and that alone was already expensive as is!!

So wild. Apparently, there was no limit per customer? How much was it listed for?

    Good rules.
My collection ballooned years ago and I realized there were lots of records I wouldn't listen to even if I tried to listen to one record a day. Since then, I've kept my max at buying 12 records a year with flexibility if I've sold something. Sold a lot since then as well and traded others.
I've got lots of jazz and that seems to always be the bulk of what I buy now. Easy to stream the album to see if I groove with it then find a used copy somewhere or a nice reissue.
