I stopped going to church when I was like 15/16 except when my mom would make me go for Christmas because she was in the choir and they did a concert before mass. I haven’t been in over 10 years at this point.

 

These days I only go for weddings or funerals but I went to catholic grade school and high school so it was a frequent thing in my life but yes I am also old now

 

I stopped when our super progressive pastor passed away and the new guy came in and immediately started throwing fire and brimstone at gay people. My mom and sister practically carried me out

 

I'll go sometimes as a treat for Mum

I told her the other day about how bees dance as a form of communication and that bees from different countries can't understand each other because they have different moves and she said "Oh like the tower of Babel!"

 

Watching my former nun of a mom lose faith in Catholicism has been quite the thrill

 

I can imagine that is quite the ride. How long was she a nun before she left?

My mom took me to a church when I was in high school that had Mario Kart and I remember the worship band covered blink-182’s First Date. I thought they were trying too hard and stopped going lmao

It’s funny how much my arc in recent years has been simultaneously losing faith in church structures, and gaining the healthiest personal faith practice of my life, lol.

Would love to put together some kinda modest house church situation with a couple friends who I know feel similar to me on certain key issues (particularly queerness), but idk when our lives would line up for that.

 

Someone needs to form an indie rock band called Modest Church Situation.

I'm 31, my parents made me go to church every Sunday morning or Saturday night until I was an adult. And always went for holidays, Palm Sunday, ash Wednesday, etc.

 

I've told this before but once I went with my friends to their church youth group because I was depressed and they, in their being young and trying to help perspective, thought that taking me would help. It was a high school dude speaking and he talked about how he wasn't a virgin anymore and had sex before marriage and went down the wrong path and everyone cried and they played the pop punk music of the moment and I was like wtf is this and never went back

I'm glad my parents were just casually religious. I grew up Catholic and going to CCD but eventually we just stopped going. There was never any pressure or hellfire or anything. My bf was raised stricter Catholic and was an altar boy and he always expects me to know more about Catholicism than I do but it was never like a big part of our lives. My dad went to Catholic school but he loves Slayer so we got a well rounded upbringing lol

I was trying to be respectful. No onions and no oil and vinegar. I was very self-conscious the whole time.

 

improv comedy is painfully unfunny and people who do it are extra annoying

 

ehh I've seen extremely funny improv by some of the funniest people on the planet.

I've also seen terrible improv.

 

While their intentions are good, I hate when people hold the door open and they are too far away. I am a slow walker and now I have to turn into an athlete to keep them from standing there.

 

This might be true to extent, but this is even more true of open mic stand up people.

I have hung around open mic'ers at comedy nights before because a have a mutual friend who knows a bunch of local stand ups, and they are so incredibly insufferable and unfunny. I immediately got the vibe that I was in the middle of a LARP. A bunch of comedy fans who spend their weekends cosplaying like they're in an episode of Louie or Crashing or some shit, and the only people who laugh at their jokes are the other unfunny open mic'ers. Just a big fantasy fulfillment jerkoff session.

 

Nah, it was their choice, they knew what they were in for.
