The rings were CGI though, I guess this is just about climbing it like a rock?

 

Saw “Strange Darling.” Really clever. Felt like something that would have been released during Miramax’s peak, instead of whatever it is now.

People that were like "why make his life a movie? Just go watch one of his thousand episodes" need to read Kitchen Confidential

 

People see it as a cash grab and I completely understand that and Anthony would probably hate the fact they're making a movie about him, but if it truly does a good job and opens up a whole new audience and new generations to his work I'm all for it.

 

I firmly believe you can make a great movie out of anything. Doesn't mean they will. But I'll always stay open-minded until I see a reason not to be.

 

Ah, ok good to know. Makes me feel better about it, then; makes sense now that I think about it!

 

My first little project for my students is to discuss their favorite piece of narrative art and I don't know if I am more disappointed at the kid doing Roblox or the kid doing The Hangover.

 

What pick are you most proud of?

 

One kid did a good Lord of the Flies one but I worry they are trying to suck up when it is something I know they read in class.

 

Does Roblox have a narrative?

 

I questioned this and the kid said there is some sort of sub-story somewhere. Like horror or mystery.

 

Hm. Feels like a pretty bad stretch, but if a kid was able to articulate an interesting argument for that… I’d be more impressed than disappointed, lol. (In spite of hating that it was their pick for “favorite.”)

 

It is just them trying to find the easiest way out. The two most common questions are "how many words have to be on each slide?" and "do we have to present this?"

 

Heh that was definitely me in school. What do I need to do to get an A with the least amount of work?

 

Yeah it is the nature of the beast. This is probably the most fun thing we will do for a while though. Next week we are starting Beowulf.

 

When I returned to school (online) in my mid 20s, I utilized my math brain too much to calculate the minimum work I could submit and still get my degree.

 

Kids will ask stuff like that near the end of the grading period. They want to know exactly what they have to get on the final exam to get a certain grade.

 

Tell them if they become good at math, they’ll forever be able to calculate the laziest they can be.

 

They are actually really bright in terms of finding ways to get out of things or to get away with things. If they harnessed their brain power we would be able to colonize planets and cure cancer.
