I've noticed a lot of liberals have been re-watching this. It is striking that, around the edges of this election, nostalgia plays a prominent role, whether it is in a time when "shit got done in the White House" or a time in which upwardly mobile white men had sway. Either way, both are fictions and omit the lives crushed under the weight of the fictions they tell themselves.

at least no one is rewatching the newsroom, a show who's legacy has been outlived by an insufferable guy pretending to be a character on that show on twitter

Anyone have that picture of Scott Aukerman's book about the clowns and Washington? I know someone posted it on here but I can't find it.

For me its less "a time when shit got done in the white house" and more an idealized vision for how shit could actually get done in the white house.

It's also recognition that watching the West Wing and the Wire, while certainly not the only nor even the primary factor, both probably played a role in shifting my views from libertarian to liberal (it's hard for me to pinpoint exactly where and when my views changed. But I remember even back in 2012 liking Gary Johnson and now here I am...)

I had a guy show me the first scene of that show. It was so fucking shitty. It was as though Sorkin ingested transcripts of Jon Stewart/Keith Olbermann rants, and the product was a congealed form of patriotic liberalism that appeals to the bygone days when their middle-class professional ennui wasn't so totalizing and crippling, when they could enjoy the world, as an American, with the satisfaction that it made sense and they were great. It was the the inverse of the people we refer to as Trump voters.

Here's my question that's been bothering me. I could prob google longer but would prefer a short precise answer from people I understand better, rather than the long winded answers that the search engine threw up.

    So outsider looking in...

Are you voting for who you want representing you in your state and then the winners of the states go to electing the president.
But then could you be in dilemma if say you love the policies of republican nominee for your state and them being elected for your hometown will greatly benefit you, but at the same time you detest Donald Trump and don't want to help him get into office.
Or do I have that all wrong

Or is it like here where you get 2 voting ballot sheets. Your state one and your national one where you can vote for both if you so choose (and is that what "popular vote" is what I'm hearing about is?)
