Is Halloween the most sequeled movie of all time? It's like every decade someone decides they want a go at making Halloween II or III or whatever.

I was exposed to Halloween and Halloween II when I was way too young tahnks to older siblings. I ahve more memories of Halloween 2 for whatever reason. Something about the hospital setting definitely freaked out younger me.

I still ahve not watched 3 because I was always in it for Michael and I know people say it's good but meh.

Seen the Zombie ones and they were whatever.

Resurrection is so so stupid but I do enjoy the nerd texting the girl to save her at the party lol

I remember 4 and 5 being on ALL THE TIME when I was a teenager during halloween season so I have a certain fondness for them. 5 really is such a huge step down, but I also definitely had a crush on Tina and blame her for my attraction to the "80's look" girl lol. The mask is so terrible in it, I know it's been said before.

I think I like Curse? It tries too much to make this mythology around Michael but I still like it.

New ones were good, but I probably list them in the order that they came out. That first one back really was great, I think the only thing I kinda disliked about it was the Dr being on Michael's side or whatever. Thought that was kind of stupid. 2nd and 3rd were both varying degrees of decent.

Just realized I forgot to mention H20 which, as a kid who was exposed too young to Michael Myers, and was like 13 or 14 when that came out, I obviously loved it. The secluded school setting with a limited amount of potential victims kind of felt too different from the OG Halloween, but also added a helplessness to it, like they're stuck out there in the middle of nowhere with Michael Myers

Do you mean like direct sequels to the original? I think it would be the original 1954 Godzilla, which has five sequels that “ignore everything except the original.” Then some of those continuities have their own sequels, as well.

Yeah, I suppose that's true. You think we'll ever go the distance and get a Godzilla vs. Halloween? Michael Myers serial killing kaiju. Now that's cinema.

  6. Kaiju film with a serial killer subplot could lowkey go hard with the right director

H20 has quietly been one of my favorites in the series despite all of its inherently 90s flaws. The cinematography itself very much looks and feels like a 90s Steve Miner/Kevin Williamson/Daryn Okada joint and it makes sense given their history of working together on the projects they worked on. BUT…that’s also kind of what I love about it. It feels very representative of what a cozy 90s Halloween looks and feels like in the memories of my cozy 90s childhood heart. There’s a dense autumnal fog and chill hovering over the little town they’re hiding out in that really pulls me back to a specific, comforting place and time in my mind. I also still love this version of Laurie’s PTSD and her journey within. I ignore Resurrection so that the ending remains as satisfying to me as it was back then when I first saw it.

Agreed! H20 was the first Halloween movie I saw in the theatre as a teen, it feels like an autumn movie (much like 4 does) and it's incredibly 90's. For all those reasons, H20 holds a very special place in my cold, dead heart.

H20 is a good, middle of the road, Halloween film for me. Way better than half of the films in the franchise, but not quite up there with a few I prefer over it. After H20 there is a huge decline in quality with the next film in my ranking.

  10. I just don't like my Halloween movies feeling like Scream movies, lol. It's weird seeing him go after 90s teens for some reason. It almost has to be a different timeline Michael (a'la the Zombie movies) to put him anywhere but the 70s-80s and not have it feel weird. I guess 2018 is the exception for me.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

love H20. Michelle Williams improves everything by default

I was in the 7th grade when H2O came out and I remember my mom taking me to see it early in the afternoon. So that’s a good memory.

  14. Rewatching Halloween 5 and...I may have been wrong about it. At least some of it, lol. The circus music when the cops show up is unforgivabke, but Michael pretending to be Tina's boyfriend (also naked Michael) and wearing the old man mask she bought him while driving her around like a psycho is genuinely one of the creepier moments in the franchise tbh.

Her slowly feeling the anger emanating from him and his hand gripping the wheel super tight trying not to kill her there hah

  16. Yeah that scene is nuts and has never stuck out to me like it has on this watch

Recently re-watched the latest 'trilogy' and I still enjoy it.

2018 is just fantastic. Modern Day classic. Not much else to say.

Kills is just super fun (ridiculous, but fun) for me, mainly because the playground scene is our neighborhood. Quite hilarious we moved here well after the movie came out and didn't put it together until about our 3rd time at the park. I specifically remember pushing my daughter on the swing thinking "why does this place feel so familiar to me?" Then it clicked with me once I recognized the bridge over the creek.

Ends actually might be my favorite of the 3. To me, its like a new take on Halloween III in the sense it takes on a different approach, but this approach is a great one, in my opinion. Yeah, there are some absurd parts like wresting with Michael Myers in a sewer, but the bigger point of the movie was great and makes sense to me. Also, I really loved the music in this movie.

Now I'm going to watch the Rob Zombie takes. I remember liking the first one a lot.

  18. Been thinking about rewatching the new trilogy as well. And, against my better judgement, the Zombie films.

1.) I thought John Carpenter passed way haha. Got him mixed up with Wes Craven.

2.) Watched Rob Zombie's Halloween and I forgot how much I actually enjoyed it. Haven't seen it in years and never realized the Sheriff is freaking Charles Lee Ray haha. Anyways, the movie is absolutely brutal. By far the darkest and most brutal of the entire franchise.
