Can I come back to this real quick and just say how cool of a movie this was? Love how it was like if The Terminator and Halloween got thrown into a blender and then it was served with a lil Halloween 3 as a garnish (for some reason). I loved how ambiguous it was too. Really tapped into some of the same reasons why Michael Myers and his motivations being unknown were so terrifying. Cool ass flick that I can’t wait to break back out in the fall.

  2. Life is Hell and I can no longer go back to school so I will be seeing Cuckoo and Trap in the next few days, fuck it

  3. Old is still not a good movie, and nearly everything from the dialogue and camerawork to the performances are baffling, but it does kind of come together as a whole when viewed like a really fucked up, nightmarish episode of Lost. It's bad, but interesting-bad. Watching Roadgames now

There’s stuff late in Old that hits hard for me. Rewatched it a week or two ago and it dropped in my Shyamalan rankings but I still like it.

I really miss the Philly-setting that generally sets the tone and feel of Shyamalan’s movies and agree that the cinematography choices - the swooping shots particularly - don’t look good and don’t work.

I usually have to preface any Shyamalan talk by saying I love that guy so so much… so my opinions are tainted for sure.

Finally got around to Never Hike Alone 2. Pretty fun. Can't wait for an actual F13 movie, but these scratch the itch enough for now. The "where ever the red dot goes, ya bang!" guy from VI is in it and he says the line, as well as Tommy Jarvis.

Now it's time for some I Know What You Did Last Summer. Out of the dozens of times I've seen this movie, I still don't think I'd be able to explain the whodunnit.

  7. Before Deadpool 3 I got new trailers for Speak No Evil and Alien Romulus, and I think one other horror movie but I can't remember what it was

Idk why but it cracks me up that one of the ways they show the AI being malevolent in that trailer is having it show the kid liveleak war/gore videos

  15. I do love and respect him even if I think this one is pretty rough. I also love Lady in the Water, so what do I know

  17. I unabashedly love Sleepaway Camp and the fact that the queer community has been able to reclaim it for its gonzo politics/implications. It's so funny that the second one starts with a jock correcting someone's use of pronouns because "she underwent a sex change operation that OUR PARENTS' TAX MONEY PAID FOR." I don't know if it would be possible to remake these movies in a clever way in today's climate, but I'd be very curious to see a queer or trans director take a swing. I could absolute see Kathryn Newton playing a rival counselor in a remake or sequel.

    "eat shit and die, Ricky!"

some of the greatest dialogue in horror

Just finished watching The Blue Rose. Very interesting and strange. Not perfect but it's definitely worth a watch imo

Didn't care for the animal violence in it though

I'm guessing Red One is the trailer we missed. I think I'd remember seeing the Smile 2 trailer again, since I'm getting kinda sick of it now tbh (that and the one for Trap were too similar and I saw them too many times). the Dylan biopic isn't even on there so idk how accurate these are, and this is the first time in a while that it's even popped up.

Cuckoo was pretty enjoyable. Kind of crumbled in the third act. The mystery of the whole thing didn't quite land and some of the character decisions were head-scratchers other than the plot needed her to make some dopey choices.

Still -- the first 2/3 built up solid tension. Really dug the location and the performances were good.

I actually agree about Lady. Not great but I get what he's doing so there's a sincerity about it that I love.

And it's got one whopper of a James Newton Howard score. His melodies in that are so good.

  24. Lady a very heartfelt and misunderstood film IMHO. Rewatching Old, I think it might be his most mean-spirited.
